Low A—Kane County 4, Wisconsin 3—13 innings

Jeimer Candelario’s walk-off single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 13th gave Kane County the sweep of the Timber Rattlers.

At the Dish: Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the first on back-to-back one-out doubles by Chesny Young and Candelario. They didn’t score again until the bottom of the 8th when Mike Olt, on rehab from Chicago via AAA Iowa, smoked a two-run blast over the scoreboard in left center to tie the game at 3-3. After squandering a bases loaded one-out chance in the 9th on a botched suicide squeeze, they loaded the bases again in the 13th and Candelario lined the game-winner back up the middle. Candelario finished with three hits while Shawon Dunston, Trey Martin and Olt all had two.

On the Hill: Duane Underwood never made it out of the fourth as his night ended early, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks. He fanned three and allowed a solo homer in the 4th. The Cougars bullpen was the real heroes on Thursday night. Michael Heesch fanned two over 2.1 frames and James Pugliese added two more shutout frames. Jasvir Rakkar struckout six in 3.2 frames and despite allowing two walks to load the bases in the 12th, Francisco Carrillo got the win with 1.1 frames of shutout ball.

Cougars Notes: Kane County will face the winner of Burlington and Cedar Rapids who play the series finale on Friday night.
