Willson Contreras drove home a pair of runs to help lead Aragua to a win over Buddy Bailey’s team. Cubs prospects continue to struggle at the plate in the AFL.

Arizona Fall League—Scottsdale 2, Mesa 1
Oct. 13—Mesa fell to 1-4 with the loss to Scottsdale as Cubs prospects continue to struggle at the plate......Addison Russell (.182) got the start at second base and went 1-for-3 with a walk.....1B Daniel Vogelbach (.091) went 0-4 with two punchouts while RF Jacob Hannemann (.100) was 0-4......Zach Cates made his second appearance, needing three pitches to get the final out of the fifth and stranding an inherited runner.......C.J. Edwards (0-0, 4.50 ERA) will get the start on Wednesday at Peoria against Atlanta prospect Aaron Northcraft. Oct. 12—No games were scheduled.

Venezuelan Winter League
Oct. 13—Willson Contreras knocked in a pair of runs to help lead Aragua to a 10-1 win over La Guira, managed by Tennessee skipper Buddy Bailey. Contreras also walked and scored. Oct. 12—Former Cub prospect Loiger Padron needed only four pitches to get the only hitter he faced out in Caracas’ 7-5 loss to Caribes.......Former Cub Eduardo Figueroa tossed two scoreless frames with three punchouts in Lara’s 5-3 win over Aragua. He allowed a hit and a walk in his second outing.

Mexican Pacific Winter League
Oct. 13—Former Daytona and Tennessee outfielder Michael Burgess is playing for Navajos. The Baltimore farm hand went 1-for-4 in the loss to Mazatlan and is hitting .081. Oct. 12—No Cubs prospects played.
