Cubs Oct. 27 Recap

C.J. Edwards threw three perfect innings and was named to the AFL All-Star game on Monday. Junior Lake stayed hot in the DWL and Jacob Hannemann had three hits in the AFL. Cubs quality assurance coach Jose Castro has been named the assistant hitting coach for the Atlanta Braves and more rumors in the Joe Maddon saga.

Braves get Cubs coach
After one year with the Cubs as the quality assurance coach, Jose Castro is off to Atlanta as the new assistant hitting coach. The first-ever quality assurance coach in team history, Castro spent over 25 years as a minor league hitting coordinator or hitting coach in the Kansas City, Seattle. Florida, San Diego and Montreal organizations.

According to a report from the New York Post, Eric Hinske, who just finished his first year at the first base coach and was recently named Cubs’ assistant hitting coach, turned down an offer to become the Yankees hitting coach. Former Cubs hitting coach James Rowson has been rumored for the Yankees hitting gig.

The Cubs made no statement regarding Castro but did remove his bio information from its website. I’m assuming the Cubs will name a replacement before the start of spring training.

Its getting Maddoning
ESPN’s Buster Olney is reporting that Joe Maddon to the Cubs is a “done deal” and an announcement will be made soon. Some others have jumped on board and Cubs’ fandom has been worked up into a frenzy for the 2015 season.

Cubs Manger Rick Renteria issued a statement through his agent. “I was hired nearly a year ago to be the Chicago Cubs manager. Notwithstanding all the speculation, I continue to focus my off-season preparation on achieving the goal we established from the start: bringing a championship to Chicago.”

The rumors and speculation will run wild until either Maddon is hired or the Cubs make an announcement. Stay tuned for the daily rumor mill. The Twins, who don’t have a manager, have expressed interest in Maddon
