Junior Lake hit his second homer of the winter to help Estrellas to a 4-3 win in the Dominican. Newly acquired relief pitcher Joseph Ortiz has yet to give up a run in the VWL and the hot stove is heating up.

Big news of the day was the reported mega-deal signed by Giancarlo Stanton and the Miami Marlins—13-year extension for $325 million. Several reports have confirmed the deal but the Marlins have yet to announce an agreement.....Tampa has traded RHP Jeremy Hellickson to Arizona for minor leaguers SS Andrew Velazquez and OF Justin Williams........A.J. Burnett agreed to one-year deal withe Pirates for $8.5 million after turning down a $12.75 M option to return to Philadelphia.....In a minor league deal, the Brewers sent right-hander Zach Quintana to Atlanta for outfielder Frank Wren.

Venezuelan Winter League
Zulia’s Yeiper Castillo is putting together a solid season in the VWL. Making his seventh start, the 26-year-old tossed six innings of shutout ball allowing three hits and three walks in Zulia’s 2-1 win over Lara. He hasn’t allowed run in his last nine innings and sports a 1.50 ERA with 21 K in 36 IP......Loiger Padron earned his third hold with a scoreless inning in Caracas’ 5-3 loss to Magallanes......Cubs left-handed reliever Joseph Ortiz made his fourth appearance, tossing a scoreless 8th in La Guaria’s 5-1 loss to Aragua. Ortiz, claimed off waivers from the Rangers in October, has worked 2.2 scoreless frames.

Dominican Winter League
Junior Lake slugged his second homer and added a single in Estrellas’ 4-3 win over Toros. Alberto Cabrera tossed two scoreless frames for Toros, retiring all six hitters he faced, one on strikes......Manny Ramirez went 0-for-4 with a walk in Aguilas 9-8 loss to Gigantes.......SS Marco Hernandez went 0-2 and knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly in Licey’s 6-5 loss to Escogido.

No Cubs prospects saw action.

Puerto Rican Winter League
1B Jonathan Mota singled in four at-bats during San Juan’s 5-0 loss to Santurce. CF John Andreoli (.219) went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice in the loss.
