Cubs Nov. 21 Recap

Plenty of prospects in action on Friday as Junior Lake added two more steals to his league-leading total, Christian Villanueva got two hits, and John Andreoli had his seven-game hitting streak snapped.

Hot Stove News
The other Chicago team was making news on Friday, signing 1B Adam LaRoche to a two-year, $25 million deal. LaRoche hit 26 homers for the Nationals last season.......The Cub free agent rumors never end. I would be surprised if they won any bidding contests for one of the top arms. The Cubs have the best minor league system in baseball, they can acquire any pitcher they want via trade and are not confined by a free agent list and contract demands.

Venezuelan Winter League
Former Tennessee Smokie Yeiper Castillo got the start for Zulia and gave up two runs over five innings in the 3-2 win. He allowed four hits, walked two and fanned a pair. Castillo, a free agent, has helped his stock with a 1.76 ERA in eight starts (41 IP).

Dominican Winter League
Licey’s Arismendy Alcantara (.235) went 0-for-3 in his start at second. Alcantara had played the three previous games in center. Junior Lake walked twice and stolen two bases. He leads the DWL with 13 steals. Lake scored a run in Estrellas’ 2-1 victory over Licey. Marcos Mateo earned his 12th save by striking out the side in the 9th......Manny Ramirez went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Aguilas’ 3-2 win over Escogido.

Mexican Pacific Winter League
Christian Villanueva had two singles in five trips to the plate but Obregon fell to Los Mochis 7-3.

Puerto Rican Winter League
John Andreoli (.224) went 0-for-5 and had his seven-game hitting streak stopped. Jonathan Mota doubled an scored in San Juan’s 3-2 loss to Caguas.
