I’m not sure the stove is even on but with the winter meetings starting on Dec. 8 it should be heating up. And its very likely news will be made before the meeting even start on Saturday........The Pirates have acquired IF Sean Rodriguez from the Rays for a player to be named and cash considerations To make rom on the roster, the Bucs designated Gaby Sanchez for assignment.......The Mariners have reportedly signed OF Nelson Cruz to a four-year, $57 million deal.

Venezuelan Winter League
Cubs infielder Luis Valbuena has made his debut for Lara and went 1-for-3 and contributed a three-run double in Lara’s 10-3 win on Saturday night. In Sunday’s 2-1 10 inning victory, Valbuena was 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts.......Willson Contreras got the start at first and was 0-for-2 with a walk before being pinch-hit for in the 7th in Aragua’s 3-2 win over Zulia in 10 innings.

Dominican Winter League
Manny Ramirez slugged his fifth homer, a solo shot in the 6th, to help Aguilas to a 4-3 win over Licey. Ramirez finished 1-for-4. Marcos Hernandez pinch-ran in the 9th for Licey but didn’t score........Former Cub and free agent Alberto Cabrera got the only batter he faced out in Toros 5-0 win over Escogido. Cabrera has appeared in 12 games with a 1.46 ERA in 12.1 IP.

Mexican Pacific Winter League
No Cubs prospects saw action.

Puerto Rican Winter League
Jonathan Mota (.222) was 0-for-4 with a run scored in San Juan’s 4-1 victory over Santurce. Mota got off to a hot start but is hitting .139 (5-36) in last 10 games. John Andreoli was a defensive replacement in the 9th but didn’t bat.
