Iowa Cubs President and General manager Sam Bernabe has been named Minor League Executive of the Year by Baseball America. Bernabe, along with Minor League Player of the Year, Kris Bryant, will be honored during the winter meetings. Story Here.........The South Bend Cubs will unveil their new logo during a press conference on Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. South Bend is the Cubs new Midwest League home after spending the last two years at Kane County. The season opens on April 9 at Four Winds Field against Bowling Green, the Rays Class A squad.

They will be naming a play-by-play announcer soon..........Jon Lester news hit a fever pitch on twitter Wednesday morning but after some Cub fans over reaction due to an erroneous report, Jon Lester is still a free agent and not yet a North Sider. Also news of a ‘mystery’ team in the Lester sweepstakes with the Yankees, Dodgers and Angels all drumming up mentions in the rumor mill.
Hot Stove News
Atlanta and Toronto had a busy day. They signed OF Mick Markakis to a four-year deal reported around $44 million and added more depth to their bullpen, inking RHP Jim Johnson to a one-year deal worth $1.6 million.......The Blue Jays have signed 1B Justin Smoak to a one-year, $1 million deal and Toronto traded LHP J.A. Happ to Mariners for OF Michael Saunders.
Venezuelan Winter League
Luis Valbuena (.091, 1-for-11) went 0-4 in Lara’s 6-2 loss to Caracas........LHP Joseph Ortiz earned his second win in relief, recording the final two outs of the sixth. He allowed a single and one of two inherited runners to score. Ortiz (2-0, 3.48 ERA), who figures into the Cubs bullpen plans with the departure of Wesley Wright, has allowed 12 hits in 10.1 IP with 2 BB and 5 K.
Dominican Winter League
Junior Lake had a double, triple, knocked in a pair, scored three runs and walked three times to lead Estrellas to a 9-3 win over Licey. It was Lake’s first game since Nov. 28 after serving a four-game suspension for his role in a fight. In 30 games, the 24-year-old hit .275/.419/.402 and led the league with 15 stolen bases. In over 300 plate appearances for the Cubs in 2014, Lake only walked 14 times. He has 20 free passes in the DWL. A couple of former Cub big leaguers saw action. Carlos Marmol tossed 1.1 frames for Licey and Marcos Mateo fanned a pair in a scoreless ninth for Estrellas........Manny Ramirez doubled in a run and finished 1-for 4 in Aguilas’ 6-5 win over Escogido.
Mexican Pacific Winter League
Christian Villanueva (.272) was 1-for-4 in Obregon’s 4-2 loss to Culiacan.
Puerto Rican Winter League
No Cubs prospects saw action as San Juan had the day off. More reports that Javier Baez will join Santurce for the final two weeks of the season.
