Cubs sign Motte
The Cubs signed former St. Louis Cardinal relief pitcher Jason Motte to a one-year $4.5 million deal on Monday. The Cubs have yet to make Th. Deal official as with the signing of Jon Lester, the 40-man roster is full. Motte missed the entire 2013 season after Tommy John surgery and Regularly hitting 98 with his fastball before the arm injury, the six-year vet sat at 94 in 2014 and wasn’t part of the Cardinals 2014 playoff roster. The 32-year-old appeared in 29 games for the Cards in ’14 with a 1.52 WHIP and a 4.68 ERA in 25 IP. Motte led the NL in saves in 2012 with 42 and sported a 0.92 WHIP and 10.8 K/9 in 72 IP. Cubs get cash from A’s; Hernandez to Red Sox
The Cubs completed a pair of trades on Monday with Oakland and Boston. The Cubs received cash from Oakland The Cubs sent SS Marco Hernandez to the Red Sox to complete the trade for Felix Doubront. Hernandez, 22, had a solid season for Daytona batting .270/.315/.351 with 22 SB. He also improved his defense in his second full season and went from a switch-hitter to batting left-handed. The Dominican signed with the Cubs in 2009 and has spent five seasons with the organization. The Cubs have Carlos Penalver and Gleyber Torres in lower Class A levels and Addison Russell will start season in AAA.

LHP Joseph Ortiz appeared in his 17th game and held Zulia scoreless in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed two hits and fanned one. In 15.2 IP, Ortiz has al ine of 19 H, 6 ER, 4 BB 7 K.
