Former Cubs LHP Wesley Wright has inked a one-year. $1.7 million deal with Baltimore. Chicago declined to offer Wright a contract for the 2015 season. Wright appeared in 58 games for the North Siders and was 0-3 with a 3.17 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 48.1 IP........Former Cubs manager Mike Quade has returned to baseball and has been named the manger for the Rochester Red Wings, the Twins AAA affiliate.
Dominican Winter League
Cubs 3B prospect Jeimer Candelario has been added to the Toros roster. Candelario started 2014 in Daytona (.193/.275/.326) but after struggling was sent back to Kane County (.223/.288/.279). The 21-year-old should start ’15 at Myrtle Beach. Candelario made his debut on Saturday night at shortstop. He went 1-for-2, walked, knocked in a run and turned a pair of double plays in Toros 6-2 win........The season ends on Dec. 21 with Estrellas (31-17), Aguilas (28-20), Gigantes (28-20) and Toros (23-25) qualifying for the round-robin playoffs. With Licey out of the playoffs, that ends the season of Arismendy Alcantara, who established himself as one of the top players in the league after only hitting. 200/.231/.280 in 17 games last year. In 19 games for Licey this winter, the 23-year-old hit .324/.395/.544 with 4 HR and 3 SB. Alcantara should have the inside tract for centerfield on opening night, and if he can prove he can get on base and hit at the top of the lineup, could be a big part of the Cubs success in 2015.........Cubs outfielder Junior Lake and free agent Carlos Peguero are tied for the DWL lead with 51 strikeouts. They also are the top two in walks with Peguero (30), Lake (29). Lake had Saturday night off.
Venezuelan Winter League
DH Luis Valbuena went 0-for-4 and hasn’t played the field since leaving the game after making a relay throw on Dec. 14. In 16 games, the 29-year-old is batting .228/.302/.456 with 3 HR and 10 RBI.
Mexican Pacific Winter League
Christian Villanueva was 0-for-4 in Obregon’s 3-1 loss to Culiacan.
Puerto Rican Winter League
Javier Baez (.409) singled, scored a run, and walked in five plate appearances during Santurce’s 8-3 win over San Juan.
