Cubs News and Rumors
In case you haven’t heard, the Cubs and WGN have ended their long relationship and the games will no longer be shown on the superstation. In 2015, around 90 games will be aired on Comcast-Chicago. The remaining 70 games will be broadcast locally on ABC-7 (25 games) and WGN-Chicago (45 games). WGN will no longer air sports on its superstation—they ended airing Blackhawks and Bulls games after Jan. 1. The ABC-7 games are expected to be farmed out to local affiliates throughout the state and midwest but its unknown if the WGN games will be available outside the Chicago market. The Cubs and WGN have yet to make the announcement official and its expected to run through 2019, like the ABC-7 deal.
Venezuelan Winter League
Zulia (2-1) used a three-run 8th to beat La Guaria, managed by Tennessee Smokies skipper Buddy Bailey. LHP Joseph Ortiz retired a pair of hitters in scoreless relief for La Guaira. Caribes improved to 3-1 with a 11-9 victory over Aragua (1-2). Rubi Silva had a pinch-hit single in the 8th for for Aragua.
Dominican Winter League
The round-robin playoffs took the day off with Gigantes atop the standings at 6-2. Aguilas (4-4) are two games back and both Estrellas and Toros are 3-5.
Mexican Pacific Winter League
Despite Christian Villanueva’s second homer of the playoffs, Obregon was unable to finish off Mexicali and lost 6-4. Villanueva hit a solo blast in the third and also walked in four plate appearances. Obregon leads the best of seven series 3-2.......Los Mochis stayed alive with a 6-2 win over Culiacan and trails the series 3-2.
Puerto Rican Winter League
Santurce made it four straight wins in the playoffs with a 4-2 win over Caguas. 2B Javier Baez went 1-for-5 with a RBI, his second of the playoffs. Mayaguez (2-2) scored twice in the top of the 9th to beat Carolina (1-3) 5-3.
