According to various reports, former Detroit Tigers pitcher Matt Scherzer is headed to Washington after agreeing to a seven-year contract. The deal is worth an unofficial $180 million.

Venezuelan Winter League
Magallanes (9-4) blanked Zulia and Aragua downed Caribes 5-4. Former Cubs minor leaguer Yeiper Castillo took the loss for Zulia, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks in four innings..... Aragua’s Yoanner Negrin fanned five but only lasted 3.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and four walks. Rubi Silva was 1-for-3 for Aragua as he doubled and scored.

Dominican Winter League
Estrellas took a 2-0 lead with a 7-3 win over Gigantes in the best-of-nine series. Junior Lake went 0-for-3 but knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly and walked. He was also caught stealing for the 4th time in the postseason. Former Iowa Cubs pitcher Carlos Pimentel, who was the DWL Pitcher of the year in 2013, took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits, including a pair of homers, in 1.2 innings. Pimentel is currently a free agent.

Mexican Pacific Winter League
Jalisco eliminated Obregon from the playoffs with a 5-3 win to take their series 4-2. Christian Villanueva didn’t play in the loss......Culiacan forced a deciding game seven with a 3-1 win over Mexicali./P>

Puerto Rican Winter League
A solo homer by Randy Ruiz was the lone run as Mayaguez (8-5) beat Carolina 1-0 in the only game of the day.
