The Caribbean World Series begins on Feb. 2 but the Cubs Javier Baez won’t play for Santurce and Puerto Rico.

MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez reported that according to a source Javier Baez will not play in the Caribbean World Series for Puerto Rico. Santurce confirmed the news on social media saying Baez wouldn’t participate.......New Cubs pitcher Jon Lester tweeted his F-250 was loaded up and was headed west to Mesa for spring training.

The White Sox have agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with 2B Gordon Beckham, who Chicago traded to the Angels in August. To make room on the roster, the Sox designated OF Dayan Viciedo for assignment........Nationals added reliever Casey Janssen to their bullpen, inking the former Blue Jay to a one-year, $5 million deal.......Braves have signed 25-year-old Cuban Dian Toscano to a four-year, $6 million deal.

Game 5—Caribes punched its ticket to Puerto Rico and the Caribbean World Series with a 8-3 win over Magallanes.

The field is set as Caribes (Venezuela), Gigantes (Dominican), Culiacan (Mexico), Santurce (Puerto Rico) and Pinar Del Rio (Cuba) will begin round-robin play on Feb 2 as Cuba faces Mexico and Puerto Rico plays Venezuela. According to a report from Baseball America, Cuba has loaded up its roster with many of the island’s all-stars.
