Cubs April 19 Minor League Recap

Two rainouts and a pair of defeats in a dreary day for the Cubs’ minor league affiliates.

On the move
The Chicago Cubs have selected the contract of Gonzalez Germen, a right-handed relief pitcher, from Iowa and optioned Matt Szczur to Des Moines. To make room on the 40-man roster for Germen, the Cubs transferred Jacob Turner to the 60-day DL.......The Cubs bullpen depth took another hit on Sunday as Iowa’s Blake Parker was placed on the DL with reported elbow problems and that sent off a relief pitcher shock wave across the organization. Hunter Cervenka was promoted to Iowa to replace Parker, Starling Peralta is headed from High A to Tennessee, Jasvir Rakkar is going from South Bend to Myrtle Beach, and David Garner had been promoted from extended spring training to the Midwest League.

Pacific Coast League—AAA—Oklahoma City 4, Iowa 0
In a game shortened by rain to six innings, Iowa (4-5) only managed two hits and dropped their second straight at home to Oklahoma City (8-2).

Hitting Recap: Not much to recap. Doubles by CF Adorn Chambers and RF Rubi Silva were the only hits for Iowa off Dodgers’ right-hander Joe Weiland. 2B Addison Russell went 0-for-2.

Pitching Chart: Barret Loux took the loss but pitched pretty wells, allowing a run on three hits over five innings. He threw 83 pitches, 52 for strikes, walked three and sent five down on strikes.....Hunter Cervenka only got two outs in his AAA debut as two walks and a hit all came around to score.....Armando Rivero isn’t doing anything to get himself promoted to Wrigley as the Cuban right-hander struggled again. Entering the game with the bases loaded and two out, Rivero uncorked a wild pitch and then surrendered a two-run double. After a walk, the game was called due to rain.

I-Cubs Notes: C Tayler Teagarden has been promoted from extended spring training to the I-Cubs.
