Cubs April 27 Minor League Recap

Here’s a look at Monday’s action around the Cubs affiliates.

Pacific Coast League—AAA—Game 1—Colorado Springs (Brewers) 7, Iowa 0; GAME 2—Postponed.
Two Sky Sox pitchers blanked Iowa on four hits in the opener and the second game was postponed and will be made up on Tuesday as part of a double-header.

Hitting Recap: Chris Valaika went 2-for-2 with a walk, Mike Baxter singled and walked, and Christian Villanueva doubled and walked in three plate appearances. I-Cubs were 0-for-8 with RISP and stranded six.

Pitching Chart: Tsuyoshi Wada got charged with seven runs on 12 hits and a walk in five innings. In his three rehab starts, Wada and surrendered 22 hits and 7 BB in 15 innings.....Armando Rivero retired all three hitters he faced, two on strikes, and it was his first “clean” outing of the season, 7 games, 5 IP.

Southern League—AA—Chattanooga (Twins) 5, Tennessee 3
Chattanooga ended Tennessee’s four-game winning streak and evened the series.

Hitting Recap: Despite homers from Kyle Schwarber (3) and Ryan Dent (2), Tennessee only managed two other hits and had their winning streak snapped. Schwarber (.370) finished 2-for-3 with a walk and Dent’s homer was a two-run shot. Pin-Chieh Chen (.294) was on base three times with two walks and a single. Daniel Vogelbach (.414) had his on-base streak end at 15 games, going 0-for-4

Pitching Chart: Corey Black (1-1, 3.15 ERA) only gave up four hits in five innings but one of them left the yard, a three-run shot in the 5th. Black threw 89 pitches, 51 strikes, with three walks and five strikeouts. Jeffry Antigua kept the Smokies in the game with three scoreless innings with 3K. Michael Jensen allowed a run in the 9th on three walks and a hit.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach
The Pelicans had the day off and start a three-game series at Wilmington on Tuesday night. Jen-Ho Tseng gets the ball in the opener and will be followed up by Jonathan Martinez and Daury Torrez.

Midwest League—Low A—South Bend
The Cubs had the day off and begin a three-game set with West Michigan (Tigers) on Tuesday. Jake Stinnett, Jeremy Null and Erick Leal are South Bend’s scheduled pitchers.
