Pacific Coast League—AAA—Oklahoma City (Dodgers) 5, Iowa 4
Oklahoma City (17-5) jumped out to a 5-0 lead and hung on for the win over Iowa (9-12).
Hitting Recap: Rubi Silva (.216) has his best game in AAA, collecting three hits including a double and a triple. 2B Arismendy Alcantara (.200) provided the offense in the three-run fifth with a two-run triple and then forced the pitcher to balk after faking a steal of home. CF Matt Szczur (.281) hit a solo homer in the 8th, his first. SS Javier Baez went 0-for-4 and committed two errors.
Pitching Chart: Dallas Beeler ended his 2013 season in AA on the DL and after pitching in the Arizona Fall league that season, made big strides in 2014, including his major league debut. Starting 2015 on the disabled list and unable to se any action during spring training due to shoulder soreness, Beeler (0-1, 8.59 ERA) made his second rehab start on Friday night, throwing 70 pitches, only 39 for strikes, in 3.1 innings. He allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits and four walks.....Hunter Cervenka made his fifth AAA appearance and surrendered two runs on two hits and two walks. He did fan four in 2.2 innings.....Armando Rivero continues to string together positive outings as the hard-throwing right-hander worked a scoreless 7th. Brian Schlitter and James Russell both worked a scoreless frame as Iowa pitching only allowed five hits on the night.
I-Cubs Notes: I-Cubs manager Marty Pevey told Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register that relief pitcher Blake Parker is in Arizona getting treatment for his elbow issue....Tsuyoshi Wada (0-2, 5.40 ERA) gets the start on Saturday night against Oklahoma City
Southern League—AA— Birmingham (White Sox) 3, Tennessee 2—10 innings
Birmingham (11-10) pitching held Tennessee (11-9) to just four hits and won on a walk-off in the 10th.
Hitting Recap: With 1B Daniel Vogelbach earning a pair of SL Player of the Week honors, C Kyle Schwarber went unnoticed but when the month ended had better numbers than his teammate, hitting .375/.471/.714 with 4 HR and 13 RB. Schwarber (.362) made three fine defensive plays behind the plate and walked twice, scoring one of the Smokies runs. Vogelbach (.356) went 1-for-4.....DH Willson Contreras (.333) had two hits, including a double, and scored.
Pitching Chart: Frank Batista (2-0, 1.48 ERA) continued his switch to the rotation with his fourth start of the year, allowing two runs over 6.2 innings. He threw 96 pitches, 64 for strikes, and allowed six hits and two walks with three strikeouts....Stephen Perakslis allowed a hit over 2.1 scoreless frames....Zach Cates (0-3, 4.05 ERA) got two outs in the bottom of the 10th but the third hit of the inning ended the game.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 7, Lynchburg (Indians) 3—7 innings-Rain
Hitting recap: 3B Jeimer Candelario (.263) had a pair of doubles, scored twice and knocked in three runs to lead the offense. 1B Jacob Rogers (.262) slugged his 3rd homer and added a RBI two-out single. SS Carlos Penalver (.239) had two hits and scored a run while RF Kevin Brown (.222) added two singles and scored once.
Pitching chart: Duane Underwood (3-0, 1.29 ERA) may be on his way to emerging as the Cubs top pitching prospect as the 20-year old entered Friday night’s action yielding two earned runs in his first three starts (16 IP). Against Lynchburg, the right-hander battled his way through five innings, walking five and allowing three hits. The Hillcats scored three runs, only one earned after 1B Jacob Rogers lost a throw from third on a grounder in the sun. Underwood fanned six, got five ground ball outs, threw two wild pitches and hit a batter......Michael Heesch was perfect in his two scoreless frames, putting two down on strikes, to earn the save.
Pelicans News: Paul Blackburn (1-1, 4.80 ERA) makes his third start on Saturday and has allowed 13 hits and seven earned runs over his last two starts, each lasting five frames.
Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 11, Fort Wayne (Padres) 5
South Bend (12-10) scored seven times in the 7th and won the series opener against Fort Wayne (6-13).
Hitting recap: LF Yasiel Balaguert (.207) knocked in four runs, including three on a bases-clearing triple in the seven-run 7th. He also singled and walked.....Chesny Young (.304) collected his 7th multi-hit game, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored a one driven in.....SS Gleyber Torres (.355) extended his hitting streak to five games with two hits, including a RBI triple. CF Rashad Crawford (.264), 1B Cael Brockmeyer (.348) and 3B David Bote (.267) all had two hits as the Cubs collected 17 on the night.
Pitching chart: Zach Hedges (1-1, 3.43 ERA) made his 4th start on Friday night and last year’s 26th round pick has made the most or his opportunities. Having lasted five innings in his first three starts, the 22-year-old out of Azusa Pacific tossed a season-high six innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits, one a solo homer, and didn’t issue a walk. Hedges fanned three and got 10 ground ball outs......David Garner (1-0, 0.00 ERA) earned the win in his 4th appearance since joining the Cubs in mid-April and worked two more scoreless frames, bringing his streak to 7.1 IP with four hits allowed and 7 K.......Tommy Thorpe worked the 9th, surrendering two runs on two hits and two walks.
