In the Box: With the game tied at 3-3, C Taylor Davis (.290) led off the 10th with a walk and Roberto Caro came into the game as a pinch-runner. A sacrifice bunt by 1B Christian Villanueva (.263) moved Caro to second and he scored easily on Junior Lake’s RBI double. After 3B Mike Olt (.214) was hit by a pitch, RF Rubi Silva (.262) singled home Lake. Christian Villanueva and Mike Olt hit solo homers to give Iowa an early 2-0 lead. 2B Arismendy Alcantara (.248) joined the homer parade in the third to make it 3-1. Villanueva, Lake, Olt and Silva all had two hits.
Pitching Chart: Jeffry Antigua (3.45 ERA) got the spot start and made the most of his opportunity, allowing two runs over five innings on two this an a walk, Antigua gave up a pair of solo homer and had a game score of 57....Yoervis Medina (5.87 ERA) allowed the tying run in 1.2 innings and Joseph Ortiz (5.70 ERA) got the Cubs out of a bases loaded, two-out jam in the 7th. Armando Rivero (2-1, 3.31 ERA) added two shutout innings and Brian Schlitter worked a 1-2-3 frame for this 9th save.
I-Cubs Notes: Carlos Pimentel (6-4, 3.05 ERA) will get the start in the first game on the DH on Saturday afternoon and the Game 2 pitcher hasn’t been named.......Iowa has placed C Kyle Schwarber on the inactive list so he can participate in the Futures Games in Cincinnati on July 12.....C Cael Brockmeyer was promoted from AA to Iowa to replace Schwarber on the roster......The Cubs activated Mike Olt from the 60-day disabled list and to make room on the 40-man roster, RHP Donn Roach was designated for assignment.....Dallas Beeler was optioned to Iowa and IF Ryan Dent was placed on the DL.>
Southern League—AA—Biloxi 6, Tennessee 4—11 innings
A two-run homer in the 11th gave Biloxi a win over Tennessee for the second straight night.
In the Box: RF Billy McKinney (.305) ripped a two-run double in the third and 2B Stephen Bruno (.277) delivered a two-run single in the fifth to provide the Smokies offense. Elliot Soto was on base five times with two singles and three walks, and he scored twice.
Pitching Chart: Ivan Pineyro (5-4, 3.77 ERA) worked six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks. The 23-year-old right-hander fanned two, threw 82 pitches, 53 for strikes, and had a game score of 51 in his 16th start (88.1 IP)......Starling Peralta worked a scoreless 7th allowing a hit with a strikeout in his 24th game.....Former MLB all-star Rafael Soriano, who was signed a free agent, made his third appearance. An error on catcher Willson Contreras allowed the tying run to score after two singles put runners on first and third....P.J. Francescon worked two shutout frames but gave up a two-run homer in the 11th. It was the first run Francescon had allowed since May 25, a span of 15 innings (14 games).

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 2, Carolina 1
Carlos Penalver scored from second on a grounder back to the pitcher to give Myrtle Beach the walk-off win.
In the Box: The Pelicans broke their 25 inning scoring drought in the second when Carlos Penalver walked with the base loaded. Penalver wasn’t done as he drew his third walk (career-high) with one-out in the bottom of the 9th and then swiped second, his 8th steal. With two outs, Chesny Young hit a dribble towards the first base side of the mound, that was bobbled by the pitcher and then thrown wide of first. The first baseman dropped the ball and Penalver raced all the way from second to score the winning run, beating the throw home.....C Victor Caratini (.248) and RF Kevin Brown both had two hits.
Pitching Chart: Jonathan Martinez was outstanding for seven innings, allowing a run on four hits and two walks. He fanned two in his 78-pitch gem and had a game score of 65......Fernando Cruz (1-2, 3.04 ERA) got the win, tossing a pair of perfect innings.

Yasiel Balaguert hit a two-run “bomb” in the bottom of the 8th to give South Bend the win over Lake County in the series opener.
In the Box: 1B Yasiel Balaguert (.290) had the big blast, a two-run homer (6), to give the SB-Cubs the lead for good. He finished 2-for-5 with 3 RBI......CF Rashad Crawford (.276) had three hits and three RBI while Charcer Burks (.274) double, walked twice and knocked in three......DH Kevin Encarnacion (.301) went 3-for-4 and SS Gleyber Torres (.313) was 2-for-5.
Pitching Chart: Michael Wagner (2.33 ERA) worked five innings, allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts. He hit two batters and uncorked three wild pitches. Wagner was making his second start after pitching most of the first half in Iowa and Tennessee......Making his MWL debut, Alex Santana surrendered a run over two innings on a hit, a walk and two wild pitches....Sam Wilson allowed two runs in the 8th as the Captain tied the game but got the final three outs in the 9th. Wilson (1-1, 4.00 ERA) was pitching in his 4th game for South Bend.

Northwest League—Short-Season—Tri-City 12, Eugene 3
Tri-City scored 10 times in the second and ended Eugene’s five-game win streak.
In the Box: Eugene scored all their runs in the fourth on a two-run double from SS Ho-young Son (.212) and a RBI single from RF Kevonte Mitchell (.119). 2B Frandy Delarosa (.300) and CF Ian Happ (.233) both had two hits.
Pitching Chart: Andin Diaz (0-2, 7.36 ERA) didn’t make it out of the second inning, allowing eight runs on five hits and three walks. Francisco Carrillo (4.00 ERA) couldn’t stop the bleeding, as he walked four and gave up two hits, allowing all three inherited runners to score and two more to cross the plate. Pedro Araujo (4.91 ERA) fanned five in three scoreless frames and Jared Cheek (5.40 ERA) gave up two runs over two innings.

Arizona Rookie League—Cubs 6, Giants 4
Cubs (10-6) used a 14-hit attack to beat the Giants (7-10).
In the Box: Cubs 4th round pick CF Darryl Wilson made his first pro start and went 1-for-4 with a walk, his first stolen base and a run.....Joe Martarano may be getting the hang of this baseball thing as the Boise State linebacker laced three doubles and knocked in two to lead the offense. C Marcus Mastrobuoni and DH Michael Foster both collected their first pro hits. Shawon Dunston was 2-for-4 as his nears his return to Myrtle Beach and Wladimir Galindo (.373) had two hits and scored once. 2B Carlos Sepulveda (.226) knocked in a pair.
Pitching Chart: Dylan Cease continues to impress in his first pro season after missing 2014 with Tommy John surgery. The Cubs sixth-round pick out of Milton High School in Georgia, the hard throwing right hander retired all nine hitters he faced on Friday night at Sloan Park. He fanned three, got three fly outs, and three ground outs. In four games, the 19-year-old has allowed one earned run in 8.2 innings on two hits with 9 K and 2 BB. John Arguello of Cubs Den said he was throwing in the high 90s on Friday night......Manuel Rondon (2-1, 6.61 ERA) made his second appearance since being traded to the Cubs from the Angels for C Rafael Lopez. The left-hander allowed a run on three hits and two walks over four innings with three strikeouts. Luis Hernandez and Carlos Rodriguez both threw a scoreless inning.
Dominican Summer League—Yankees II 12, Cubs 2
The Yankees early and often and kept scoring beating the Cubs.
Pitching Chart: Andri Rondon (1-2, 3.52 ERA) got the start and allowed three runs on two hits and four walks. Fauris Guerrero (7.50 ERA) gave up five runs in an inning and Wagner Disla (7.59 ERA) surrendered three runs over four innings. Miguel Esteves (7.82 ERA) got the final two outs but yielded a run.
Venezuelan Summer League—Tigers 5, Cubs 3
Tigers (22-25) scored five straight runs to erase a 2-0 deficit and beat the Cubs (22-25).
In the Box: Cubs were held to four hits, two off the bat of CF Jose Gonzalez (.247), including a solo homer, his third. 1B Henrry Pedra (.195) singled home a run and 2B Jhonny Bethencourt (.315) was 1-for-4
Pitching Chart: Cubs pitching gave up 17 hits. Andres Bonalde (4.25 ERA) surrendered two runs on six hits over four frames and Moises Ramirez (1-3, 2.53 ERA) allowed two runs in two innings on five hits.
