Pacific Coast League—AAA—Omaha (Royals) 9, Iowa 5
Omaha (63-49) pounded Iowa (60-51) pitching for 13 hits and scored in six straight innings to take the series opener.
In the Box: LF Adron Chambers (.268) went 2-for-5, scored twice, and knocked in two runs while C Taylor Davis (.283) had two hits and got credit for a RBI. SS Javier Baez (.306) went 0-for-5, struckout twice and committed his 15th error.
Pitching Chart: Drake Britton (7-6, 5.22 ERA) lasted four innings, surrendering five runs on five hits and three walks. Frank Batista (6.48 ERA) wasn’t any better giving up four runs in his two innings of work. Ryan Buchter, Armando Rivero and Joseph Ortiz all tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
I-Cubs Notes: Tsuyoshi Wada (3-4, 3.54 ERA) is expected to start on Thursday night.
Southern League—AA—Tennessee 13, Birmingham (White Sox) 1
Willson Contreras had a career night at the plate as Tennessee (57-50) whipped Birmingham (58-49).
In the Box: Willson Contreras had a career-high four hits and knocked in three runs to lead the offense. It was his fifth straight multi-hit game and extended his hit streak to nine games. He leads the SL with a .338 average and is 14-for-his last-22......CF Jacob Hannemann (.234) went 2-for-5, including his third homer, and plated three runs while Albert Almora (.240) drove in three with two hits, including a double. 2B Stephen Bruno (.269) was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and 1B Jacob Rogers (.256) was on base four times with two hits and two walks, scoring three times....Tommy La Stella went 2-for-5 and Miguel Montero was 1-for-5 as the two big leaguers continued their rehab.
Pitching Chart: Ryan Williams (6-2, 2.98 ERA) tossed six shutout innings, limiting the Barons to just three hits. He fanned one and finished with a game score of 67 in his 57-pitch outing.....Starling Peralta (2.58 ERA) got charged with an unearned run over two innings and Matt Brazis struckout the side in the 9th in his second game back at AA.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 3, Wilmington (Royals) 2
Jason Vosler tied the game in the 9th with a two-run homer and Daniel Lockhart delivered the walk-off double in the 10th as Myrtle Beach (64-45) beat Wilmington (52-57) for the second straight night.
In the Box: Not much offense until the ninth (only three hits) when Jason Vosler (.256) slugged his 4th homer since joining the Pelicans, a two-run shot over the right field wall to tie the game at 2-2. Pin-Chieh Chen (.266) led off the inning with a bunt single......In the 10th, Trey Martin (.243) singled, advanced to second on a sac bunt by Carlos Penalver (.210), and scored on Lockhart’s double.
Pitching Chart: Jen-Ho Tseng (5-6, 3.41 ERA) tossed seven strong innings and the only runs came on a two-run homer in the fourth. Tseng threw 84 pitches (64 strikes) and fanned six. The 20-year-old didn’t walk anyone and has only issued one free pass in his last 14 innings......Josh Conway (2-1, 3.00 ERA) threw a season-high three innings of relief and earned the win, his second as a pro. The right-hander allowed two hits and fanned two in his 25-pitch outing.

Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 10, Kane County (D-Backs) 2
South Bend (19-20, 48-58) scored in every inning but two as beat Kane County (29-10, 65-42) to even the series.
In the Box: Eleven hits for South Bend as super utility player David Bote led the attack with three singles and two RBI......RF Jeffrey Baez (.257) knocked in three runs with a bases loaded triple and Gioskar Amaya (.267) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored....2B Vimael Machin (.185) not only made a nice diving play at second he also knocked in a pair of runs....SS Gleyber Torres (.306) went 1-for-4 with two RBI and Ian Happ (.282) singled and walked twice.
Pitching Chart: Trevor Clifton (3-9, 5.00 ERA) won for the first time since June 26 as the 6-foot-4 right-hander threw a career-high seven innings. Making his 17th start, the 20-year-old scattered seven hits and walked three as the Cougars plated two earned runs. Clifton fanned three and had a game score of 55......Daniel Lewis (3.33 ERA) got two outs in the 8th but left after walking the bases loaded.....Alex Santana (3.12 ERA) got the final out of the 8th, stranding all three inherited runners and then tossed a scoreless ninth.
SB-Cubs News: South Bend sends Tommy Thorpe (3-5, 3.67 ERA) to the mound in the deciding game of the series on Thursday night.......South Bend set a new season attendance record on Wednesday night with a franchise best 259,530.

Arizona Rookie League—Cubs 2, Dodgers 1
An error in the bottom of the ninth allowed the wining run to score as the Cubs (20-16) beat the Dodgers (17-19).
In the Box: After two outs in the ninth, a pair of walks put runners in scoring position and when the first baseman misplayed Robert Garcia’s grounder, Roberto Caro scored the winning run. The Cubs tallied their first run on a wild pith, allowing Michael Foster to cross home. Only four hits for the Cubs, singles by 3B Benjamin Carhart (.333), 3B P.J. Higgins (.333), 2B Angelo Amendolare (.233) and C Tyler Payne (.214).
Pitching Chart: Manuel Rondon (5.97 ERA) surrendered an unearned run over five innings, holding the Dodgers to three hits while fanning three. It was his sixth appearance with Cubs since being traded by the Angels for C Rafael Lopez......Jordan Brink saw his first action on the mound since June 22 as the Cubs 11th round pick in 2014 tossed a scoreless frame with a strikeout.....John Williamson worked a 1-2-3 7th and Luis Hernandez (1-1, 0.82 ERA) mowed down six on strikes in two innings, and got credit for the win.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs 6, Red Sox II 5
Cubs (35-22) beat the first-place Red Sox (39-18) in a game shortened to seven innings by rain.
In the Box: SS Yeiler Peguero (.303) had his second four-hit game of the season as the 17-year-old stroked four singles, scored twice, and swiped two bases....The team’s hottest hitter, 2B Edgar Rondon (.352) had three hits, including a triple, knocked in a run and scored once. 1B Chris Pieters (.311) singled in a pair of runs while C Richard Nunez (.234) tripled and drove in a run.
Pitching Chart: Deibi Torres (2-3, 5.61 ERA) surrendered five runs in his 10th start, giving up seven hits and a walk.
