In the Box: 1B Christian Villanueva launched his 15th homer over the left-field wall to provide the difference in the game. John Andreoli had two singles while Javier Baez walked twice, knocked in a run and scored once.
Pitching Chart: Felipe Paulino (3-6, 4.17 ERA) twirled a gem on Saturday night, blanking the Storm Chasers on two hits and walk over seven innings. Paulino set six down on strikes, recorded 11 ground ball outs and had a game score of 78 in his 90-pitch outing....Ryan Buchter (1.63 ERA) worked a scoreless eighth and Brian Schlitter (1.32 ERA)allowed a run in the ninth.

Southern League—AA—Tennessee 14, Jackson (Mariners) 1
Tennessee (59-51) scored 10 runs in the 4th and beat Jackson (42-67) for the second straight night.
In the Box: Every starter in the lineup recorded at least one hit and scored once as the Smokies collected 16 hits. RF Billy McKinney (.280) and SS Jonathan Mota (.176) both knocked in three runs while CF Albert Almora (.257), DH Bijan Rademacher (.253), and 1B Jacob Rogers (.250) had two each. LF Jacob Hannemann went 3-for-5, scored twice and knocked in a run. Tommy La Stella singled in five at-bats and scored twice in his fifth rehab game. Hit streak continued for Jeimer Candelario (13) and Willson Contreras (12).
Pitching Chart: Pierce Johnson (6-0, 1.61 ERA) gave up a solo homer but that was it for seven innings as the right-hander continues to dominate Southern League hitters. Throwing 104 pitches, Johnson fanned seven and gave up three hits and a walk. Game score 73......Gerardo Concepcion (8.31 ERA) worked around a pair of hits in the eighth and Matt Brazis (0.00 ERA) tossed a scoreless ninth.

Carolina League—High A—Frederick (Orioles) 2, Myrtle Beach 1
Frederick (54-59) ended Myrtle Beach’s (66-46) nine-game home winning streak as they took advantage of an error in the fourth to score both runs.
In the Box: Only run for the Pelicans came in the second when Carlos Penalver (.219) tripled and scored on Jordan Hankins’ sac fly....Pin-Chieh Chen (.269) had two hits, including a double, while C Victor Caratini (.242) went 2-for-4.
Pitching Chart: Paul Blackburn (5-5, 3.15 ERA) only allowed three hits but two unearned runs in the fourth after a Jason Vosler error gave the Keys the win. Blackburn threw 80 pitches over six innings, striking out three while walking one. Game score 64......Tyler Ihrig (3.75 ERA) tossed three shutout innings with two strikeouts.
Pelicans News: In the series finale on Sunday night, Myrtle Beach sends Brad Markey (3-0, 0.91 ERA) to the mound......Mark Zagunis missed Saturday night’s game after getting hit in the head by a pitch on Friday night. No update on Zagunis’ condition....
Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 5, Clinton (Mariners) 1
Jake Stinnett took a no-hitter into the sixth inning as South Bend (50-59) beat Clinton (34-77) for the second straight night.
In the Box: Every Cubs starter but RF Jeffrey Baez (.263) had a hit as his nine-game hitting streak was snapped.....CF Rashad Crawford (.289) slugged a solo homer in the 4th, was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 2nd and reached on a bunt single and scored in the 6th. Recently named the fastest player in the MWL by Baseball America, the 21-year-old is in the midst of his best season in his fourth year......SS Gleyber Torres (.307) singled in a run and CF Ian Happ (.255) doubled and scored.
Pitching Chart: Jake Stinnett (5-4, 4.52 ERA) had one of his best outings of the year as the former second-round pick took a no-hitter into the sixth. Fanning a career-high seven and matching his career-best seven innings, Stinnett had a game score of 72, allowing a run on three hits and a walk. The right-hander throws a fastball in the low 90s and also posses a good hard slider in his arsenal......Jordan Minch (4.25 ERA) worked a 1-2-3 eighth and Daniel Lewis (3.21 ERA) recorded the final three outs.
SB-Cubs News: Cubs send Zach Hedges (6-7, 3.90 ERA) to the mound in the series finale with Clinton......Matt Rose, the Cubs 11th round pick in June, is on his way to South Bend to take the place of Jesse Hodges, who went on the DL with a knee injury.
Northwest League—Short-Season—Eugene 1, Salem-Keizer (Giants) 0
Oscar De La Cruz tossed six innings of shutout ball and two relievers followed suit as Eugene (22-26) blanked Salem-Keizer (27-21).
Pitching Chart: Oscar De La Cruz (4-2, 2.39 ERA) is establishing himself as the top arm in Eugene as the 6-foot-6 right-hander blanked the Volcanoes for six innings. The 20-year-old fanned seven and only surrendered four hits......Craig Brooks, the Cubs 7th round pick in June, tossed two perfect innings, retiring three on strikes for his first hold.....Pedro Araujo got credit for the save, working around a pair of hits in the 9th.
Emeralds Notes: Eugene heads to Boise and face the Hawks for three games. Ryan Kellogg (0-1, 7.36 ERA) gets the start on Sunday night.
In the Box: Robert Garcia continues to be impressive in the AZL as the 21-year-old collected three more hits to raised his average to .361. He also knocked in a run (15), swiped his 15th base and scored once.....2B Carlos Sepulveda extended his hit streak to seven games with two singles and knocked in a pair. LF Roberto Caro went 2-for-3 with a triple and a RBI while CF Darryl Wilson (.250) and Yohan Matos (.102) plated runs.
Pitching Chart: I thought Eric Jokisch was ready to return to AAA after his last outing but he took the mound Saturday night at Fitch Park. The left-hander tossed five shutout innings, allowing four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Game score of 63.......Austyn Willis earned his first pro save, tossing four shutout frames against the A’s. The 6-foot-6, 19-year-old held the A’s to three hits and two walks and has only allowed one earned run over his last 15 innings.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs 8, Rangers II, Cubs
After having their ten-game win streak snapped on Friday, the Cubs (37-23) beat the Rangers II (27-33).
In the Box: C Richard Nunez (.230) knocked in three runs with a double while CF Samir Lara (.298) added a pair of RBI. RF Jose Jules (.151) and 2B Franklin Tineo (.167) had two hits apiece and SS Yeiler Peguero (.296) doubled, scored twice and drove in his 16th run..
Pitching Chart: Eury Ramoz got the start and only lasted two innings, surrendering four runs on two hits, one a homer......Sucre Valdez fanned six in three shutout frames and Fauris Guerrero (3-0, 4.41 ERA) earned the win allowing a run in 2.1 innings. Julian Aybar retired the final five hitters he faced in order, three on strikes, for his first pro save.
Cubs Notes: After Saturday’s action, the Cubs are three games behind Red Sox II with 12 games left.

The season finale between the Cubs (30-40) and the Rays (42-28) was rained out. The Cub and Phillies tied to third at 30-40. The Rays and Tigers (28-32) will play a best of three series for the league title.
