Pacific Coast League—AAA—Nashville (A’s) 3, Iowa 2
Nashville (53-64) snapped Iowa’s (64-51) four-game win streak and won the series opener at Principal Park.
Pitching Chart: Tsuyoshi Wada (3-4, 3.84 ERA) gave up three runs, one on a solo homer, as the left-hander allowed five hits and four walks in 5.2 frames. Yorvis Medina retired all four hitters he faced while Armando Rivero and Carl Edwards Jr. both threw a scoreless inning.
I-Cubs Notes: RHP Dallas Beeler (4-5, 5.49 ERA) looks to build on his last outing (7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB 3 K) on Wednesday night.....2B Tommy La Stella has been activated from the 60-day disabled list and optioned to Iowa. With La Stella coming off the DL, the Cubs 40-man roster is now full at 40.....C David Ross was taken off the bereavement list and OF Matt Szczur was sent back to Iowa.
Southern League—AA—Jackson (Mariners) 8, Tennessee 0
Jackson (14-30, 43-69) left town with a win in the final game of the series with Tennessee (22-22, 61-52).
In the Box: Smokies only had five hits but CF Albert Almora (.267) continued his assault on Southern League pitching with a single and a double. It was his seventh straight multi-hit game and extended his hitting streak to eight games. Almora went 11-for-19 in the series.....3B Jeimer Candelario (.320) had his 15-game hitting streak snapped and C Willson Contreras (.340) saw hit 14-game streak end.
Pitching Chart: Jeffry Antigua (4-4, 4.63 ERA) got tagged for six runs on six hits and a walk in 5.1 innings.....RH Juan Paniagua (6.30 ERA) walked four and threw two wild pitches as the Generals scored a run in 1.2 innings......LH Gerardo Concepcion (7.99 ERA) fanned four in two frames, allowing a run on two hits

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 3, Salem (Red Sox) 0
Myrtle Beach’s (27-18, 68-46) Jonathan Martinez and two relievers blanked Salem (16-29, 54-61) on two hits.
In the Box: Every starter had at least one hit, 12 total, but the Pelicans didn’t get on the board until the 8th on a 1B Cael Brockmeyer (.247) RBI single. Trey Martin hit a two-run homer off the left-field foul pole in the 9th, his second.....LF Pin-Chieh Chen (.270), 3B Jason Vosler (.283) and Martin (.241) all had two hits.
Pitching Chart: Jonathan Martinez (8-2, 3.00 ERA) didn’t figure in the decision but the right-hander tossed six innings of one-hit ball, issuing two walks with two strikeouts. Game score of 70. Martinez has allowed seven hits and one run over his last 20 innings......David Garner (2-1, 2.08 ERA) got the win in relief, retiring all six hitters he faced, one on strikes......Jasvir Rakkar closed out the Red Sox in the 9th for his 14th save, second in the Carolina League.

Midwest League—Low A—Beloit (A’s) 7, South Bend 5
Beloit (18-24, 44-68) slugged three homers and beat South Bend (21-22, 50-60) in the series opener.
In the Box: Jeffrey Baez (.271) had another multi-hit game (two singles), his 7th of August, scored twice and stole two bases (27).....3B David Bote (.232) singled in two runs and LF Ian Happ (.255) went 1-for-4 with a RBI and his first stolen base in MWL. 1B Matt Rose (.250) and C Gioskar Amaya (.267) both plated runs.
Pitching Chart: Midwest League Pitcher of the Week Erick Leal (7-8, 4.47 ERA) took the mound for the first time since no-hitting Kane County for nine innings. The third hitter Leal faced homered and before his night was over the Snappers scored six times on nine hits, two leaving the yard.....LH Jordan Minch (4.09 ERA) tossed two shutout frames while RH Alex Santana (3.38 ERA) allowed a run over the final two innings.
SB-Cubs News: Trevor Clifton (4-9, 4.78 ERA) makes his 18th start. The 20-year-old has logged 79 innings in his first full season with 38 BB and 76 K.
Northwest League—Short-Season—Eugene 15, Boise (Rockies) 8
Eugene (8-5, 25-26) scored early and often to complete the sweep at Boise (3-10, 17-34).
In the Box: Hitting was contagious on Tuesday night. SS Andrew Ely (.365) and DH Ian Rice (.280) had big nights as they each had three hits, doubled, homered and knocked in four runs. 3B Adonis Paula (.286) went 4-for-6 while 2B Frandy Delarosa (.269) and C Tyler Alamo (.290) had three hits and plated two runs.....LF Eloy Jimenez (.282) returned to the diamond for the first time since July 28 and didn’t miss a beat with three singles, two RBI, and three runs scored.
Pitching Chart: Casey Bloomquist (0-0, 2.57 ERA) made his second start for the Emeralds, giving up two runs on five hits over two innings......Kyle Miller (1-1, 5.14 ERA) notched his first win as a pro, tossing two scoreless innings with a strikeout.....Luis Hernandez surrendered three runs in the fifth in his NWL debut and Trey Masek (4.28 ERA) worked two scoreless frames with three punchouts......Scott Frazier (6.75 ERA) threw the final two frames, yielding three runs on a pair of homers.

Arizona Rookie League—Cubs
Day off in the Arizona Rookie League for the East Division first-place Cubs (7-4, 22-17). Cubs outfielder Robert Garcia is second in the AZL with a .359 average. He’s also third in runs (28) and stolen bases (16). Cubs host back-to-back games at Sloan Park on Aug. 12-13 against Rangers and Giants.
Cubs Notes: The Cubs have released RHP Trey McNutt. A 32nd round pick in 2009, the 26-year-old spent seven seasons with the Cubs organization but missed all of 2014 after surgery. He made eight appearances this summer for Mesa in the AZL.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs 7, Braves 4
Edgar Rondon’s first pro homer gave the Cubs (39-23) an early 3-0 lead and they beat the Braves (31-31) for the second straight day.
In the Box: SS Edgar Rondon (.340) slugged his first pro homer, a three-run shot over the center field fence in the first inning.....1B Richard Nunez (.247) was on base four times with two hits and two walks, and also drove in two. 2B Yeiler Peguero (.293) went 1-for-4 with a RBI double and 3B Miguel Ruiz (.148) added a RBI single.
Pitching Chart: Deibi Torres (5.85 ERA) gave up four runs over 4.1 innings on five hits and three walks....For the second time in four days, Fauris Guerrero (4-0, 3.60 ERA) earned the win in relief. The 18-year-old right-hander blanked the Braves for 3.2 innings, allowing just one hit. ...Julian Aybar (1.93 ERA) worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his second straight save.
