I-Cubs Notes: The Cubs have sent relief pitcher Rafael Soriano to Iowa for a rehab assignment. Soriano has been on the DL since Aug. 4 with shoulder inflammation........OF Matt Szczur was promoted to chicago to replace C David Ross, who was placed on the family medical emergency list.
In the Box: CF Albert Almora doubled (25), smacked his 6th homer, and knocked in a season-high four runs (44)......1B Daniel Vogelbach (.282) hits his 7th homer a solo shot, and added a double.....RF Bijan Rademacher (.259), 2B Stephen Bruno (.268), and 3B Wes Darvill (.176) collected two hits and knocked in a run.
Pitching Chart: Ryan Williams (9-2, 3.12 ERA) only surrendered one earned run (two overall) over six innings to earn the win. Wednesday night’s game with the Dash was rained out and will not be made up. Daury Torres (9-6, 3.93 ERA) is expected the get the start on Thursday night as the Pelicans open a four-game series at home against Wilmington. Winston-Salem has a 1.5 game lead on the Pelicans for the second half title.
Midwest League—Low A—West Michigan (Tigers) 4, South Bend 3
A bases loaded triple in the bottom of the 8th gave West Michigan (69-59) the win and a six-game lead over South Bend (58-67) in the second-half wild card race.
In the Box: Cubs took a 2-0 lead in the first when RF Jeffrey Baez (.276) singled, stole second and took third when the throw went into center, and scored on LF Ian Happ’s triple. Happ (.248) then scored on a balk. A double by 3B Vimael Machin (.178) and a RBI single from C Erick Castillo (.243) made it 3-1 in the 7th.
Pitching Chart: Tommy Thorpe (4-6, 3.16 ERA) tossed a career-high seven innings and only allowed an unearned run. The Cubs 8th round pick last year gave up two hits, walked three, and set three down on strikes. SB-Cubs News: James Norwood (2-2, 4.26 ERA) gets the ball on Thursday as South Bend returns home for a three-game series with Great Lakes. It will be Norwood’s sixth start as he began the season in the bullpen, had a stint on the DL with an arm injury and was moved to the rotation after returning to the MWL.....The Cubs have placed 1B/3B Matt Rose on the disabled list and recalled IF Vimael Machin from Eugene.

Oscar De La Cruz fanned a career-high 13 hitters and combined with Greyfer Eregua on a one-hitter as Eugene beat Spokane for the third straight night.
In the Box: DH Alex Bautista’s base-loaded two-run double in the third gave Eugene all the runs they would need. P.J. Higgins stayed red-hot with a RBI single while Ricardo Marcano plated the final run. CF Donnie Dewees had his 18-game hitting streak snapped, going 0-for-4.
Pitching Chart: Oscar De La Cruz (6-3, 2.96 ERA) had his best night as a pro as the 6-foot-4 right-hander took a no-hitter into the sixth inning.
