Pacific Coast League—AAA—Iowa 3, Sacramento (Giants) 1
Tsuyoshi Wada pitched into the seventh and Iowa’s bullpen was perfect in the series opener against Sacramento.
In the Box: 1B Christian Villanueva (.259) knocked in two runs in the first with a single and SS Chris Valaika (.268) hits his sixth homer in the fourth. Valaika, Villanueva and Mike Olt all had two hits......2B Javier Baez (.316) went 1-for-4 and scored a run.
Pitching Chart: Tsuyoshi Wada (4-5, 3.95 ERA) went 6.2 frames, allowing a run on six hits and a walk. The left-hander fanned three and threw 105 pitches, 67 for strikes. Wada will be a September call-up to Wrigley and if Dan Haren continues to struggle, may find himself back in the rotation......Yoervis Medina (5.60 ERA) got the only hitter he faced to close out the 7th and Ryan Buchter (1.59 ERA) set down four straight. Blake Cooper (2.95 ERA) got the final two outs for his fifth save.
I-Cubs Notes: Dallas Beeler (6-5, 4.52 ERA) gets the start on Friday night.
Southern League—AA—Tennessee 7 Chattanooga (Twins) 1
Jeffry Antigua blanked Chattanooga for six innings as Tennessee left town with a series win.
In the Box: DH Taylor Davis (.319) had three hits and knocked in a run while C Willson Contreras (.329) continues to add to his impressive season with two hits and two RBI. 3B Jeimer Candelario (.287) had two hits and plated a run while LF Jacob Hannemann (.240) added a RBI double.
Pitching Chart: Jeffry Antigua (5-4, 4.50 ERA) scattered four hits and three walks over six frames but the Lookouts couldn’t score. He fanned two in his 94-pitch outing and had a game score of 63......Tayler Scott (4.50 ERA) surrendered a run in the 7th on a hit and two walks.....Corey Black (4.65 ERA) worked a 1-2-3 8th and Matt Brazis (0.75) recorded the final three outs and stranded the bases full.
Smokies News: Tennessee returns home on Friday night to face Jacksonville and send Andres Santiago (2-5. 4.70 ERA) to the mound.
Carolina League—High A—Wilmington (Royals) 3, Myrtle Beach 2
An unearned run in the top of the 8th proved to be the difference as Wilmington (59-70) took the series opener at Myrtle Beach.
In the Box: Pelican scored both of their runs in the 4th when RF Mark Zagunis (.280) led off with a single and scored on a Jacob Rogers double. DH Cael Brockmeyer (.238) then brought home Rogers (.252) with a two-out single. 2B Chesny Young (.331) and C Victor Caratini (249) both had two hits.
Pitching Chart: Daury Torrez (9-6, 3.93 ERA) didn’t figure in the decision as the right-hander went seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, He didn’t walk anyone, fanned five and threw 85 pitches, 65 for strikes. Game score 60.....James Farris (0-4, 5.52 ERA) allowed a lead off single and after two outs, struck out a batter but he reached on a throwing error from Cartini. Farris then uncorked a wild pitch to plate the run.......Josh Conway (3.17 ERA) was hitting 95 on the gun in the 9th as the right-hander pitched a scoreless ninth with a strikeout.
Pelicans News: Jeremy Null (2-2, 4.01) gets the ball Friday night against Wilmington. Null has put his name on the prospect map this season with an all-star season at South bend before being promoted. In eight starts in High A, Null has a line of 65.2 IP, 68 H, 21 R, 17 ER, 4 BB, 48 K, .265 BAA, 1.10 WHIP.
Midwest League—Low A—Great Lakes (Dodgers) 4, South Bend 3
Great Lakes (64-63) scored three times in the third and held on to beat South Bend (56-69) in the series opener.
In the Box: 2B Vimael Machin (.184) knocked in a pair of runs and 1B David Bote (.259) added a RBI on one of his two hits. RF Jeffrey Baez (.277) went 2-for-5.....Every starter had at least one hit except SS Gleyber Torres (.291), who was 0-for-5 with two strikeouts. The Midwest League’s top prospect is just 5-for-his-last-40.
Pitching Chart: James Norwood (2-3, 4.67 ERA) only lasted three innings , allowing three runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts.....Ryan McNeil (2.75 ERA) gave up a run over three frames and Dillon Maples (3.76 ERA) had his best outing since being promoted to South Bend, tossing three shutout innings on two hits with two punchouts.

Northwest League—Short-Season—Eugene 2, Spokane (Rangers) 1
Tyler Alamo’s RBI single in the bottom of the 8th gave Eugene their fourth straight win over Spokane.
In the Box: Emeralds took a 1-0 lead in the fifth on Adonis Paula’s second homer of the season. In the 8th, Andrew Ely led off with a walk, took second on Ian Rice’s sac bunt and scored on Tyler Alamo’s single to center. RF Alex Bautista went 1-for-3 with a double.
Pitching Chart: Ryan Kellogg (0-1, 5.79 ERA) blanked the Indians for three innings, his best outing as a pro. The fifth-round pick allowed two hits, walked one and recorded two strikeouts.....Adbert Alzolay (5-2, 2.09 ERA) fanned nine over six innings of relief, allowing just two hits, although one was a solo homer that tied the game in the seventh.
Emeralds Notes: Eugene hans’t announced a starter for Friday night as Hillsboro comes to town in a crucial three-game series for the second half title.
