Arizona Fall League News
Several Cubs prospects are on their way to Arizona to begin Arizona Fall League preparations and continue rehab worked.

OF Billy McKinney tweeted he was on his way back to Arizona on Thursday. The 21-year-old missed the final three weeks of the season after fouling a ball off his knee and breaking his knee cap.

LHP Rob Zastryzny, who will be pitching in the Arizona Fall League and suffered a broken bone in his foot early in the season, also tweeted he was Arizona bound.

Zastryzny along with right-handed pitchers Corey Black, Pierce Johnson, and David Garner; and position players C Willson Contreras, 3B Jeimer Candelario, OF Mark Zagunis, and C Cael Brockmeyer will all play for the Mesa Solar Sox in the AFL. The season starts Oct. 13 and Mesa’s home games are at Sloan Park, the home of the Cubs spring training facility.

Cubs fall instructs starts on Sept. 21 and those attending include recent draft picks and young international prospects as well as those making apposition switch. Jason McLeod, the Cubs Director of Scouting and Minor League Development, said earlier this year first-round pick Ian Happ would be working at second base during the fall instructs. In recent years the Cubs have played games against other Arizona-based teams but last year only inter-squad games were played.

Other opening days for the winters leagues are Venezuelan, Oct. 9; Mexican, Oct 10; Dominican, Oct. 16; and Puerto Rican, Oct. 30.
