Pelican up 2-0 in finals

The Pelicans moved one win away from the Mills Cup with a 2-0 win over Wilmington on Monday night.

Three Myrtle Beach pitchers blanked Wilmington and Victor Caratini knocked in both runs.

In the Box: C Victor Caratini delivered a two-out RBI double in the first and added a run-scoring double in the ninth to knock in both Myrtle Beach runs. Caratini is hitting .438 in the playoffs with six RBI...... In the first, CF Pin-Chieh Chen singled with one out and scored on Caratini’s two-bagger to right field. The Pelicans added an insurance run in the ninth when Chen and Jorge Soler both singled, and Chen scored the second run of the night on Caratini’s hit to center. Soler was thrown out at home on the play. C Benjamin Carhart and SS Gleyber Torres had the other two hits.

Pitching Chart: Tyler Skulina got the start and the Cubs fourth-round pick in 2013 fired a gem, allowing a single in five innings. He walked two, fanned six and threw 74 pitches, 47 for strikes. Game score 69.....Daury Torrez, a starter during the regular season, blanked the Bleu Rocks for two innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out one.....Tyler Ihrig fanned a pair in a scoreless eighth and got help with a web gem from 2B Daniel Lockhart.....David Berg worked a 1-2-3 ninth, recording three ground ball out for his first playoff save.
