First off make sure you check out John Arguello’s story on Willson Contreras. Up next for John is third baseman Jeimer Candelario.

And speaking of Candelario, the 21-year-old delivered the game-winning two-run double as Mesa scored six times in the top of the ninth to beat Glendale 10-9. It was Candelario’s fifth double and his only hit in five at-bats.....C Willson Contreras (.323) went 2-for-4, scored twice, and knocked in a run......RF Mark Zagunis (.200) doubled and scored, and drew his ninth walk in six games. Zagunis has a OBP of .500......Right-hander Pierce Johnson (6.55 ERA) got the start and allowed two runs on six hits and a walk over four innings. Johnson fanned one and threw 59 pitches, 38 for strikes, in his third start in the AFL.

Venezuelan Winter League
P.J. Francescon gave up two runs in the bottom of the 8th as Aragua won on a walk-off two-run double. The right-hander entered the second game of the DH with a one-run lead in the 8th but a leadoff single, a sacrifice bunt, and two walks loaded the bases. A double into the right-field corner ended the game. Francescon got charged with his first blown save and took the loss, allowing the first two runs of the season (4.2 IP). 2B Gioskar Amaya (.250) went 1-for-2 with a walk in the nightcap for Aragua, who swept the twin-bill.
