Another big game for Cubs catching prospect Willson Contreras in the Arizona Fall League highlights Thursday’s action.

Arizona Fall League
C Willson Contreras smacked a two-run homer in the first and singled and scored in the sixth to help lead Mesa to a 5-3 win over surprise. The Venezuelan native is hitting .308/.391/.641 in 10 games and it was his third homer. He hit eight at AA Tennessee in 126 games.....3B Jeimer Candelario (.378/.395/.784) was 0-for-4 and RF Mark Zagunis (.227/.485/.409) went 0-for-3 but drew a walk. Former Cubs prospects Elliot Soto is playing for Mesa and is batting .243/.300/.243 in 10 games. Soto was traded to the Marlins as part of the Dan Haren trade.



Venezuelan Winter League
Despite a full schedule, no Cubs prospects saw action.



Dominican Winter League
Only one game of the schedule as Toros beat Licey 4-1. 2B Arismendy Alcantara tripled home the only run for Licey and finished 1-for-4 with two strikeouts. Alcantara is hitting .242/.316/.333 in nine games with 4 B, 11 K and 2 SB.



Mexican Pacific Winter League
DH Christian Villanueva went 2-for-3 and scored a run in Obregon’s 6-3 loss to Jalisco.



Puerto Rican Winter League
Season gets underway on Friday as Carolina host Caguas while Mayaguez visits Santurce. Cubs players listed on rosters include Andres Santiago, P, Caguas; and Fernando Cruz, P, Santurce.
