Cubs re-sign three minor leaguers
Cubs have re-signed three more minor leaguers for the 2016 season—RHP Felix Pena, RHP Frank Batista and OF Pin-Chieh Chen. All three are eligible for the Rule 5 draft.

Pena has quietly been a three-time all-star the last three seasons in the MWL, FSL, and the Southern League for Tennessee. Over the past three seasons, the 25-year-old has logged over 100 innings each year and has 319 strikeouts, leading the Cubs minors with 140 K in 2015. Pena signed with Cubs back in 2009 and made his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League that summer.

Batista, 26, signed with the Cubs in 2009, and started last year in Tennessee, earning all-star honors as went 7-2 with a 1.73 ERA in 14 starts (83.1 IP). He was promoted to AAA but didn’t have the same success with a 5.71 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP in 34.2 IP. The right-hander began his pro career as a starter, moved to the bullpen and recorded 26 saves in 2011 (80 saves from 2011-14), and moved back into the rotation in ’15.

Chen, 24, was part of the Pelicans championship team, hitting .268/.334/.374 with 52 runs and 20 stolen bases in 96 games. The Taiwanese native started the year in AA but was sent back to Myrtle Beach in mid-May. Chen was signed as a free agent in June of 2010 and made his debut for Mesa that summer.
