A daily recap of the Cubs minor league system

Cubs prospects saw action in the 7-3 loss to the Dodgers and a look at where some of last year’s players landed.

Cubs fall to Dodgers

Cubs pitching surrendered 13 hits to the Dodgers and fell 7-3. Cuban reliever Armando Rivero got the first two outs of the 7th but then gave up three hits and a walk that led to three runs. The right-hander was signed for $3.1 million before the 2013 season but has yet to live up to the bonus, struggling last year in AAA......Jeffry Antigua, signed as a free agent and back for his 10th season with the Cubs, got the final out of the 7th......Minor league free agent Miguel Mejia, 28, appeared in his second game but got tagged for a run on two hits and a walk in the eighth.

With the starters getting more at-bats on Tuesday, there were fewer opportunities for the Cubs youngsters. 1B Taylor Davis got the start and went 0-for-3 with a walk, and is 0-for-10 this spring with three walks. Davis had his best year in the minors last year, hitting .311/.361/.483 with nine homers in 104 games. SS Carlos Penalver saw his first action in a spring game but didn’t bat. Other minor leaguers seeing action were CF Albert Almora (0-1), 3B Jeimer Candelario (0-1), and LF John Andreoli (0-1).
