Vogelbombs, pre-game concerts and Fandemonium highlight today’s report

Daniel Vogelbach smacked his first homer as the Cubs beat the Reds 7-4.

Starting at DH and in his first at-bat in the third, Daniel Vogelbach launched a solo homer over the center field wall off Reds’ top pitching prospect Robert Stephenson. The 23-year-old grounded out to second and struckout in his other two plate appearances. Hampered by hamstring and oblique injuries last year, the Florida native only appeared in 81 games and saw his power numbers drop to a career low. Vogelbach was added to the 40-man roster during the off-season...... Bryant Flete saw his first action, playing second and grounding out to short in his only at-bat. Flete, 23, spent most of last year as a reserve in AA and finished up the year in South Bend........ Jeimer Candelario got the start at third and went 0-for-3...... 3B Jason Vosler grounded out to the pitcher as a pinch-hitter in the 8th and stayed in the game. The Cubs 16th round pick in 2014 out of Northeastern hit 10 homers last year between South Bend and Myrtle Beach......1B Taylor Davis was 0-for-1 and CF John Andreoli fanned in his only at-bat.
