Pacific Coast League—AAA—Iowa 9, New Orleans 1
Iowa won its first game of the year as Javier Baez homered in a rehab start.
Hitting Recap: Javier Baez has been assigned to Iowa for rehab and he made his 2016 debut on Tuesday night, blasting a solo homer in his third at-bat (1-3). Baez got the start at third and is also expected to play some outfield before re-joining the North Siders. Not to be outdone by the return of Baez, C Willson Contreras went 4-for-5 with a double and four RBI. Daniel Vogelbach was 3-for-4 with a double and a run batted in. Arismendy Alcantara and Kris Negron had two hits each as Iowa knocked out 14 base hits. Leadoff man John Andreoli scored three times, reaching on a double and two walks.
Pitching Chart: Pierce Johnson made his AAA debut but needed 66 pitches to get through three innings and was hit on his pitching arm by a batted ball. The right-hander continued after getting hit and didn’t allow a run on two hits and three walks. He fanned five. The bullpen turned in another good performance, allowing four hits and a run over the final six innings. Felix Pena got the win, fanning three in two shutout innings. Brandon Gomes struckout two in two scoreless frames while Armando Rivero worked a 1-2-3 eighth. Miguel Mejia allowed a run on two hits in the 9th.
I-Cubs Notes: After allowing seven runs in three innings in his AAA debut, Ryan Williams is back on the mound Tuesday night against New Orleans.
Southern League—AA—Mobile 5, Tennessee 4
A costly error by Carlos Penalver allowed two runs to score in the 8th to five the BayBears the win.
Hitting Recap: Smokies pounded Mobile pitching for 15 hits but could only push across four runs. Chesny Young slugged his second homer, a solo shot in the first, and finished 2-for-4. Mark Zagunis went 3-for-4 with a double while Bijan Rademacher, Billy McKinney and Victor Caratini all had two hits.
Pitching Chart: Jen-Ho Tseng’s AA debut went well for three shutout innings, fanning four while issuing a walk. Then the first batter of the fourth inning hit a liner off his leg and ended his day. No update on his condition. Michael Jensen surrendered three runs in two innings and Corey Black took the loss after issuing a walk and eventually giving up an unearned run. Andury Acevedo came into the game in the eighth and looked like he was going to get out of the two-out jam, coaxing a bouncer up the middle, but it was misplayed by Penalver. After a walk, a base hit plated two runs that proved to be the difference.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 5, Winston-Salem 4
Ian Happ’s walk-off ground-rule double plated a pair of runs and capped off a three-run ninth inning to down Winston-Salem.
Hitting Recap: After two walks, a sac bunt and another walk loaded he bases in the ninth, Gleyber Torres walked to force in the first run. Happ then ripped a ground-rule double to right-center ending the game. Happ was 1-for-5. Pelican only had six hits but drew 11 free passes. Torres and Charcer Burks both plated runs in the Pelicans two-run fifth.
Pitching Chart: Jake Stinnett made his Carolina League debut and went five innings, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks. He fanned three in the 85-pitch outing and surrendered a two-run homer. Ryan McNeil held the Dash to one run over three innings with four strikeouts. David Berg got the win with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 7, Bowling Green 6
Eloy Jimenez’s walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth age South bend the win over the Hot Rods.
Hitting Recap: RF Eloy Jimenez made his first MWL homer count. The slugging right-hander took a Diego Castillo offering over the left field wall with one out in the ninth. Jimenez was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts before the homer. CF Eddy Martinez blasted his first pro homer, a solo shot to left in the fourth. The Cuban finished 2-for-4 and is hitting .375. LF Donnie Dewees continued his solid play, going 2-for-5 with two RBI. C Ian Rice doubled, walked twice, and added a sacrifice fly. SS Bryant Flete was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Pitching Chart: Adbert Alzolay made his MWL debut, allowing four runs on six hits in five innings. The 21-year-old fanned five in his 73-pitch outing. Craig Brooks made his season debut, allowing a run on two hits and a walk in two innings. Michael Wagner got the win but surrendered a run on two hits and two walks over the final two frames.
SB-Cubs News: Left-hander Carson Sands makes his MWL debut on Tuesday night. The Cubs 4th round pick in 2014 out of North Florida Christian High School made 14 starts last year in Eugene, going 3-4 with a 3.92 ERA
