Eddy Martinez blasted a two-run homer while Carson Sands and Casey Bloomquist combined to blank Dayton 2-0.

Pacific Coast League—AAA—Nashville 8, Iowa 5

Nashville (15-17) used a five-run 4th to down Iowa (15-15).

Hitting Recap:  Arismendy Alcantara slugged his 4th homer and knocked in four runs, finishing 2-for-4. Shane Victorino had two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run. Miguel Montero went 0-for-3 in his rehab start.

Pitching Chart: Stephen Perakslis (0-1, 4.00 ERA) surrendered five runs on six hits, including a pair of homers. Miguel Mejia allowed three runs while C.J. Riefenhauser (1.1 IP), Brandon Gomes (1 IP) and Spencer Patton (1 IP) all kept the Sounds off the board. 

I-Cubs Notes: Drew Rucinski (1-3, 6.89 ERA) takes the mound for the seventh time on Wednesday afternoon at Principal Park against Nashville.

Southern League—AA—Mississippi 4, Tennessee 3

The Braves won in walk-off fashion for the second straight game over the Smokies this time in the 11th.

Hitting Recap: RF Billy McKinney (.215) collected his first three-hit game of the season (3-4) and knocked in a run while 1B Kelly Dugan (.280) slugged his fifth homer (10 games) and finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Smokies tied the game in the 9th when McKinney singled and scored on a sacrifice fly from SS Carlos Penalver (.215). The Smokies had the bases loaded and no outs but could only score once.

Pitching Chart: Duane Underwood made his third start and threw 82 pitches, 51 for strikes, over five innings. The right-hander allowed a two-run homer in the third, one of seven hits. He recorded six strikeouts, walked two and had a game score of 49. Starling Peralta gave up a run in the 6th and David Garner tossed two scoreless frames. Gerardo Concepcion extended his scoreless streak to 17.2 innings, retiring all six hitters he faced, three on strikes. Corey Black only got one out in the 11th as a leadoff walk scored after a hit, a sacrifice bunt and another single.

Smokies News: Paul Blackburn (3-0, 0.24 ERA) makes his seventh start on Wednesday night against the Braves......The Smokies have placed RHP Jen-Ho Tseng on the disabled list. Tseng left his May 2 start in the third inning with an apparent shoulder injury.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 5, Winston-Salem 2

Pelicans scored three times in the 3rd and downed the Dash.

Hitting RecapGleyber Torres (.245) went 3-for-3 and scored once while Jason Vosler knocked in a pair of runs with two hits, including a triple. Ian Happ went 2-for-4 with  a RBI and Daniel Lockhart was 2-for-4 with a run batted in.

Pitching Chart: Jonathan Martinez (3-1, 3.00 ERA) held the Dash to one run over six innings. He gave up seven hits, walked one, and fanned one in the 93-pitch outing. Jeremy Null fanned three in his season debut, allowing two hits in 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. James Pugliese gave up a run in one inning and Jose Rosario got the final out for his third save.

Pelicans News: Zach Hedges (3-2, 1.69 ERA) second in the Carolina League in ERA and fourth in WHIP (0.97) makes his sixth start on Wednesday night......RHP Jeremy Null has been assigned to Myrtle Beach from extended spring training. After going 6-2 with a 2.70 ERA in 12 starts with South Bend last year, he posted a 2-3 record and 4.70 ERA with Myrtle Beach in 10 games, nine starts. He fanned 82 against just 11 walks in 117.1 innings in 2015, and was named the MVP of the Midwest League All-Star game......RHP James Pugliese has been activated from the DL and C Erick Castillo has been placed on the DL.  Pugliese missed 14 games on the disabled list. He has throw in three games for the Pelicans this season, with seven strikeouts, no walks and four hits allowed in 5.0 innings. The New Jersey native also allowed just one run in four innings over two appearances with Double-A Tennessee. In 55.0 innings over 30 games with Myrtle Beach in 2015, he 4-2 with a 2.62 ERA, fanning 49 with 13 walks. Castillo began the year on the DL with Myrtle Beach before getting transferred to South Bend, where he went 0-for-8 with a walk in three games.

Midwest League—Low A—Game 1—South Bend 2 Dayton 0; Game 2—Dayton 5, South Bend 4

Hitting Recap: GAME 1—LF Eddy Martinez (.248) slugged his team-leading fourth homer, a two-run blast in the 2nd, for the only runs the Cubs would need. The 20-year-old also leads South Bend with 19 RBI. Eloy Jimenez (.306) went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored......GAME 2—LF Donnie Dewees (.300) hit his first homer, a two-run shot in the 3rd that gave the Cubs a 2-0 lead. 3B Jesse Hodges (.343) was 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. 

Pitching Chart: GAME 1—Carson Sands tossed his second straight scoreless outing, blanking the Dragons for five innings with three strikeouts in the 75-pitch outing. The left-hander allowed five hits and had a game score of 60. Casey Bloomquist retired all six hitters he faced for his second save......GAME 2— Ryan Kellogg (2-3, 3.38 ERA) surrendered five runs in 4.2 innings on five hits and three walks. He fanned three in the 72-pitch outing. John Williamson fanned one in 1.1 scoreless innings. 

SB-Cubs News: Justin Steele (1-4, 4.11 ERA) toes the rubber in his sixth start on Wednesday nigh in Dayton and the left-hander is still looking for his first quality outing.
