Career day for Willson Contreras as the 24-year-old slugged a pair of homers, including a grand slam, and knocked in a career-high five runs to help Iowa to an 11-1 win. Shortstop Gleyber Torres swatted his sixth homer of the year in a 4-2 Myrtle Beach victory.

Pacific Coast League—AAA—Iowa 11, Albuquerque 0

Iowa scored 10 runs in the 6th and three pitchers blanked the Isotopes to complete the four-game sweep.

Hitting Recap: C Willson Contreras collected his first multi-homer game, including a grand slam, and finished 4-for-5 with a career-high five RBI and three runs scored. His first blast capped off the 10-run sixth and he added an opposite field solo bomb in the 8th. The 24-year-old is batting .329/.418/.559 in 43 games with 8 HR and 30 RBI. He extended his hit streak to eight games......Cubs sent 14 hitters to the plate in the sixth, collecting eight hits and three walks in the frame. 1B Daniel Vogelbach (1-4), 2B Arismendy Alcantara (2-4), 3B Kris Negron (2-4), SS Munenori Kawasaki (2-4), and RF John Andreoli (0-4) all drove in runs in the sixth. CF Albert Almora (.318) was 3-for-5 while Matt Murton doubled twice and scored once. 

Pitching Chart: Jake Buchanan (4-3, 4.86 ERA) fired six shutout frames, holding the Isotopes to four hits and coaxing 14 ground ball outs. He only threw 68 pitches, 47 for strikes, fanned two and had a game score of 66. Felix Pena continues to impress in AAA, tossing two no-hit frames with a strikeouts. Pena walked one and is second in PCL among relievers with a .136 BAA. Carl Edwards, Jr. closed it out with a 1-2-3 ninth with two punchouts.

I-Cubs Notes: Alex Sanabia (0-1, 11.91 ERA) gets the start as Iowa heads to Oklahoma City for a four-game series

Southern League—AA—Tennessee

Tennessee had Monday off and head home to face Jackson (Mariners) on Tuesday. Stephen Perakslis (0-1, 5.40 ERA) makes his second start of the Smokies......Jen-Ho Tseng, who went on the DL May 9 with shoulder inflammation, threw a batting practice session last week in Mesa, according to Arizona Phil of The Cubs Reporter........The Cubs have released right-handed relief pitcher Michael Jensen, the Cubs 26th round pick in 2011 out of Hartnell College. The 25-year-old missed the 2013 season after surgery and went 2-2 with a 2.23 ERA in 32.1 innings last year but had two stints on the DL. Jensen was 2-0 with a 8.27 ERA in 20.2 innings for the Smokies this year.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 4, Wilmington 2

 Trevor Clifton tossed six solid innings and Trey Martin added three hits to lead the Pelicans (27-23) to the win over Wilmington (17-32).

Hitting Recap: RF Trey Martin (.224) went 3-for-3, walked, scored once and knocked in a run to lead a nine-hit attack.  SS Gleyber Torres (.253) smacked his sixth homer, a solo shot in the first. DH Shawon Dunston (.230) collected two hits while 1B Yasiel Balaguert (.236) and CF Rashad Crawford (.218) plated runs. 

Pitching Chart: Trevor Clifton is having a pretty good May. In his fifth start of the month, the 21-year-old allowed his first earned runs since May 5, a two-run homer in the first. He blanked the Blue Rocks over the next five frames and fanned six in the 83-pitch outing. In May Clifton is 3-1, 1.29 ERA, 28 IP, 7 BB, 35 K, 1.11 WHIP, .229 BAA. The bullpen—Jordan Minch, Dillon Maples and Ryan McNeil—all tossed a scoreless frame with McNeil recording his second save. 

Pelicans News: Pelicans have Tuesday off and head to Salem for four games in three days, including a twin-bill on Thursday.

Midwest League—Low A—Lansing 5, South Bend 4

Lansing (25-24) salvaged the final game of the series and avoided the sweep at South Bend (31-18). 

Hitting Recap: DH Ian Rice (.368) delivered another big hit for South Bend, ripping a two-run single in the first to tie the game. After only playing two games in a week after  coming off the DL, Rice’s bat has kept him in the lineup and is hitting .378 with 16 RBI over his last 11 games. CF Donnie Dewees (.284) extended his on-base streak with a single in the first and he also walked. LF Eloy Jimenez(.337) upped his hit streak to 17 games with a RBI single in the 8th to cut the lead to 5-4. 3B Andrew Ely (.321) and C Tyler Alamo (.302) both had two hits.

Pitching Chart: Justin Steele struggled with his command as Lansing loaded the bases in the first and third. They plated two runs in the first but Sands worked out of the jam in the third, getting a strikeout and a groundout to end the threat. However, that would by Steele’s final inning, needing 81 pitches (48 for strikes) to get through three frames. He allowed six hits (all singles), walked three and fanned three. Game score 39......After only allowing one run over his first 11.1 innings (5 hits), Greyfer Eregua (1-2, 4.82 ERA) came into the game allowing runs in his each of his last three appearances and after a 1-2-3 4th, back-to-back doubles and a two-run homer gave the Lugnuts a 5-2 lead. The right-hander finished with a line of 3 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K. Kyle Miller threw the final three shutout frames, allowing a hit and two walks with four strikeouts.

SB-Cubs News: South Bend heads to Fort Wayne for a three-game series with Kyle Twomey (1-3, 5:05 ERA) getting the start in the opener on Tuesday night......South Bend has placed IF Sutton Whiting on the 7-day DL and activated 2B Carlos Sepulveda from the DL. Sepulveda has been on the DL since May 5 and is hitting .268/.375/.341 in 10 games.
