Pacific Coast League—AAA—Iowa vs. Nashville (A’s)
Rain canceled Tuesday night’s game and will be made up as a doubleheader on Thursday. Aaron Brooks (0-1, 15.00 ERA) makes his fourth rehab start of the I-Cubs on Wednesday afternoon against Nashville.
Southern League All-Star Game—North 5, South 1
The North All-Stars scored five runs off Tennessee’s Brad Markey in the 5th for the win.
Hitting Recap: C Victor Caratini scored the South squad’s only run of the game in the 9th when he doubled and scored on a single from @Kaen Wong. Caratini was 1-for-2. 2B Chesny Young got the start and was hitless in two at-bats.
Pitching Chart: RH Paul Blackburn fanned two and only needed 12 pitches to retire the side in a perfect 3rd. Brad Markey started the fifth but only got two outs, surrendering five hits, one a grand slam. Juan Paniagua retied the only hitter he faced on strikes. RH Tyler Skulina was at the game but didn’t pitch. Jeimer Candelario and Mark Zagunis were selected to play but were promoted to AAA.
Smokies News: Smokies have Wednesday off and host Pensacola in the second half opener on Thursday.
Carolina League (6) vs. California League (4) All Star Game
Trevor Clifton got the final two outs to nail down the Carolina League’s win over the Cali All-Stars.
Hitting Recap: Ian Happ pinch hit in the top of the 6th, popping out to the catcher. He remained in the game at second and grounded into a force play in his second at-bat.
Pitching Chart: RH Zach Hedges only needed seven pitches for a 1-2-3 third in the only inning he threw. RH Jake Stinnett pitched a scoreless 7th, retiring all three hitters he faced on groundouts. It got interesting in the 9th as three hits and walk to lead off the frame led to two runs. Trevor Clifton entered the game with one out and got a fly ball for the second out. A double cut the lead to 6-4 but Clifton retired James Harris (A’s) on a fly ball to center to end the game.

Midwest League All Star Game—East 11, West 10
All-Star MVP Eloy Jimenez smacked a three-run homer in the top of the 9th to tie the game and the East All-Stars added another run for the 11-10 win.
Hitting Recap: With his team trailing 10-7, Jimenez entered the box 0-for-4 with two strikeouts but the 19-year-old took a Darin Giles pitch over the center field wall. In the bottom of the 9th, the South Bend outfielder showed off his defensive skills with a tough catch in four territory up against the wall in left.
Jimenez wasn’t the only Cubs player that excelled at the plate as CF Donnie Dewees had two singles, walked once, knocked in a run and scored three times. 3B Jesse Hodges got the start and was 0-for-2.
Pitching Chart: LH Carson Sands got the final two outs of third but gave up two hits, allowing two of the three inherited runners to score. RH Adbert Alzolayy got two outs in the 7th but gave up a two-run homer.
SB-Cubs News: Cubs have Wednesday off and are back in action in the second half on Thursday as they head to Dayton.
Northwest League—Short-Season—Hillsboro (D-Backs) 4, Eugene 1
The Hops (2-3) held Eugene (3-2) to three hits and evened the series.
Hitting Recap: Only three hits for Eugene and they scored their only run in the second for a 1-0 lead when C Marcus Mastrobuoni (.286) doubled and scored on a two-out throwing error by the shortstop. CF Darryl Wilson (.190) was on base twice with a walk and a single. 3B Matt Rose (.267) doubled.
Pitching Chart: Jesus Castillo tossed five solid innings in his first start. The 20-year-old Venezuelan allowed two runs, one coming on a solo homer, on four hits and a walk. He fanned three and got six ground ball out for a game score of 53. M.T. Minacci surrendered two runs in the 6th and tossed a scoreless 7th. Scott Frazier kept the Hops off the board in the 8th, walking one.
Emeralds Notes: Pedro Silverio gets the start in the series finale on Wednesday night.
Arizona Rookie League—Cubs
Cubs had the day off and are back in action on Wednesday night when they face the D-Backs.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs 1 (9), Pirates 3
Cubs unleashed a 11-hit attack in a game shortened by rain.
Hitting Recap: LF Samir Lara (.308), 2B Herson Perez (.280), and C Richard Nunez all knocked in two runs. 3B Orian Nunez (.273) was a homer shy of the cycle and SS Rafael Narea (.239) collected three hits.
Cubs Notes: In case you’re wondering, the two Cubs teams do not meet in the regular season but a championship game between the two squads would be nice.....Cubs have a rematch with Pirates on Wednesday.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs 2 (4), Mariners 3
Fidel Mejia scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the 11th for the walk-off win.
Hitting Recap: 3B Fidel Mejia (.408) led off the 11th win a walk, took third on a single from C Miguel Amaya (.300) and scored on a passed ball with two outs. 1B Franklin Tineo (.154) ripped a RBI triple and DH Ronaldo Lopez (.083) followed with a single as the Cubs grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 2nd. Cubs upped their lead to 3-1 when Amaya doubled and scored on a RBI single from LF Abraham Rodriguez (.306), extending his hit streak to 11 games. Mejia finished 2-for-4, his eighth multi-hit game in 13 games.
Pitching Chart: LH Faustino Carrera, 17, gave up his first run of the season and finished with a line of 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K. The Mexico native got six ground ball outs and had a game score of 71. Yan De La Cruz (1-0, 5.40 ERA) got charged with a blown save but worked five innings for the win, allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts.
Cubs Notes: Yovanny Cuevas is tied for the DSL lead in stolen bases with eight....Cubs face the Mariners again on Wednesday.
