Pacific Coast League—AAA—Iowa 6, Memphis (Cardinals) 2
Cubs grabbed a 3-0 first inning lead and beat Memphis in the final game of the series.
Hitting Recap: Cubs took a 3-0 lead in the first on a RBI single from 3B Jeimer Candelario (.304) and two Red Birds errors. Candelario and 2B Logan Watkins added RBI singles in the third. LF Mark Zagunis (.280) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Watkins and SS Kris Negron (.239) both had two hits. CF Albert Almora went 1-for-4 with a run scored in his return to the I-Cubs lineup.
Pitching Chart: Jordan Pries (3-1, 3.52 ERA) made his Cubs debut and was impressive, holding the Red Birds to a pair of runs over six hitting. The right-hander allowed four hits, walked one and fanned four in the 79-pitch outing. Armando Rivero worked a 1-2-3 seventh and Felix Pena blanked the Redbirds the final two innings with three punchouts.
I-Cubs Notes: Iowa begins a series in New Orleans and send Jake Buchanan (9-5, 4.53 ERA) to the mound.
Smokies have the day off and embark on a 10-game road trip with five games in Chattanooga and five more in Birmingham. Tyler Skulina (3-9, 5.69 ERA) gets the start in the opener at Chattanooga.
Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 9, Carolina (Braves) 5
Pelicans overcame a 5-1 deficit to beat the Mudcats.
Hitting Recap: Every starter had at least one hit as the Pelican collected 15 in the win. 2B David Bote (.320) was 2-for-5 with two RBI while RF Daniel Spingola (.192) singled and drove in a pair. 1B Yasiel Balaguert (.245) had three hits and scored twice while SS Andrew Ely (.209), CF Jeffrey Baez (.233) and C Erick Castillo (.227) all had two hits.
Pitching Chart: Jeremy Null got battered for 10 hits over five innings as the Mudcats scored five times. Null fanned three in the 87-pitch outing. Craig Brooks fired two innings of no-hit ball with four strikeouts and earned his first Carolina League win. RH Daury Torrez allowed a hit and fanned one over the final two scoreless frames.

RF Eddy Martinez (.265) tied the game with a two-run single and C Alberto Mineo (.250) delivered the game-wining RBI single with two outs. Martinez stayed red-hot, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four knocked in, including a solo homer in the fourth. 2B Carlos Sepulveda (.320) smacked first pro homer, a two-run shot in the fifth. Eloy Jimenez went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI while CF Donnie Dewees (.282) had two hits, walked once and scored twice......GAME 2—Jimenez (.330) led the offense in the nightcap, going 2-for-2 with his 11th homer and two RBI (64). Mineo was 2-for-3 with two RBI while CF Roberto Caro (.238) had two hits and plated a pair. SS Andruw Monasterio (.220) went 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI.
Pitching Chart: GAME 1—Adbert Alzolay gave up seven runs on 10 hits and a walk with four strikeouts. LH Tyler Peitzmeier got the win in relief, allowing a run in 2.1 innings on three hits. Peitzmeier fanned four and threw 34 pitches, 26 for strikes......GAME 2— Justin Steele needed 70 pitches to get through three innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks. Northwest League—Short-Season—Eugene 7, Vancouver (Blue Jays) 6—12 innings
Ems erased a 5-0 deficit and Vimael Machin delivered a RBI single in the 12th to complete the five-game sweep in Vancouver.

Jared Cheek fired three no-hit innings to earn the win and Scott Frazier worked around three hits and a walk in the 12th for his first save.

Arizona Rookie League—Brewers 7, Cubs 4
Brewers used a four-run fifth to down the Cubs.
Hitting Recap: 3B Jhonny Bethencourt (.232) was on base three times with two hits and a walk, scoring once and driving in a run. LF Ruben Reyes (.250) went 2-for-4 with a RBI and C Gustavo Polanco (.354) singled home a run. Cubs 38th round pick Tolly Filotei made his pro debut on Monday night, playing center and batting leadoff. He went 0-for-5 and scored a run.
Pitching Chart: Matt Swarmer, the Cubs 19th round pick out of Kutztown University, made his first pro start. The 6-foot-5 right-hander fanned six in three innings and blanked the Brewers on two hits. Colton Freeman allowed two runs on three hits with a strikeout in his pro debut that lasted one inning. Dakota Mekkes (0-1, 9.82 ERA) only got two outs in the fifth as he allowed four runs on five hits and a walk. Luis Aquino stranded a pair of inherited runners in the fifth but surrendered a run in the sixth. Ho-young Son tossed a scoreless seventh and Jed Carter pitched a scoreless eighth.
Cubs Notes: With their win over the A’s on Sunday night, the Cubs have clinched the first half title and qualified for the playoffs. The top two overall records receive first-round byes.

Cubs snapped an eight-game losing streak with a win over the first-place Rangers.
