Erling Moreno tossed one-hit ball for five innings and Eugene offense erupted for 11 runs in the win. Zach Hedges and Ryan Kellogg also shined on the mound Tuesday night.

Pacific Coast League—AAA—Oklahoma City (Dodgers) 6, Iowa 0

Cubs were held to one hit and the Dodgers got a homer from Yasiel Puig

Hitting Recap: Cubs only hit was a single to lead off the second by 3B Jeimer Candelario.

Pitching Chart: Jordan Pries got the start and allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks over four innings. C.J. Riefenhauser gave up an unearned run in 1.2 innings. Felix Pena (1.1), Gerardo Concepcion (1 IP), and Pierce Johnson ( 1 IP) all pitched in relief. 

I-Cubs Notes: Iowa had not named a starter for Wednesday afternoon.

Southern League—AA—Tennessee 7, Montgomery (Biscuits) 0

Zach Hedges and two relievers blanked the Biscuits and the offense erupted for 16 hits.

Hitting Recap: Six different Smokies had multi-hit games.  DH Ian Happ (.268) smacked his fourth AA homer and finished 2-for-5 with two RBI. C Victor Caratini (.295) and LF Kelly Dugan (.223) both had three hits while Trey Martin (.227), SS Carlos Penalver (.211) and 2B Daniel Lockhart (.191) all had two hits. 3B Jason Vosler (.357) slugged his first AA homer, a two-run shot, and added another RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Pitching Chart: Zach Hedges (2-1, 1.80 ERA) had the Biscuits beating the ball into the dirt, collecting 12 ground ball outs over seven shutout innings. The Biscuits only managed four hits and a walk while Hedges set six down on strikes in the 84-pitch gem. Game score 78. David Garner and Nick Sarianides both tossed a scoreless frame.

Smokies News: Smokies have Wednesday off and send Tyler Skulina (4-10, 5.40 ERA) on Thursday night at Pensacola.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 7, Salem (Red Sox) 4

Myrtle Beach upped their win streak to 10 games with a victory over Salem.

Hitting Recap: 1B Yasiel Balaguert (.253) smacked his 17th homer, a solo shot, and finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. DH Ian Rice (.248) had two hits, scored twice and knocked one in while SS Bryant Flete (.370) was 2-for-4 with two RBI. RF Jeffrey Baez (.242) stayed hot with two hits and a RBI.

Pitching Chart: Jake Stinnett (8-4, 4.46 ERA) gave up nine hits and four earned runs but got the win. The right-hander fanned six in the 90-pitch outing. Game score 50. Tommy Thorpe picked up his sixth hold with 1.2 scoreless frames and Ryan McNeil added to his Carolina League save lead with his 18th, recording the final four outs, two on strikes,

Pelicans News: Trevor Clifton (6-7, 3.15 ERA) gets the start Wednesday night in the second game of the series.

Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 4, Great Lakes (Dodgers) 1

Ryan Kellogg’s left arm and the bat of Tyler Alamo led the Cubs to the sweep over Great Lakes.

Hitting Recap: DH Tyler Alamo (.253) knocked in three runs with a two-run single in the first and a RBI base knock in the fourth. SS Andruw Monasterio (.182) led off the first with a double and scored on a RBI single from 1B Alberto Mineo (.260). C P.J. Higgins (.276) was on base three times with two walks, a single and a run scored. 2B Vimael Machin (.158) doubled and scored in the fourth.

Pitching Chart: Ryan Kellogg (6-7, 3.16 ERA) won his third straight start as the 6-foot-6 left-hander held the Loons to one run on five hits and two walks over seven innings. Kellogg fanned seven in the 98-pitch gem for a game score of 72. Carson Sands worked around three hits and a walk in 1.2 shutout relief innings. Jared Cheek got the final out for his second save, stranding two inherited runners.

SB-Cubs News: Cubs send Oscar De La Cruz (0-0, 0.93 ERA) to the mound as South Bend heads to Dayton for a four-game series.....LHP Kyle Twomey has been placed on the disabled list.

Northwest League—Short-Season—Eugene 11, Salem-Keizer (Giants) 5

Ems held an 11-0 led an cruised to the win.

Hitting Recap: 3B Wladimir Galindo (.244) led the offensive onslaught as he was a triple shy of the cycle, going 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBI. RF Kevonte Mitchell (.230) had three hits and plated a run. Yeiler Peguero and Chris Pieters both had two hits and C Tyler Payne added two RBI.

Pitching Chart: Keep an eye on Erling Moreno. The right-hander was impressive in his second start in the NWL, limiting the Volcanoes to one hit over five innings. The 19-year-old right-hander issued one walk, fanned three and and had a game score of 69. Alex Santana allowed four runs in the sixth and Tyler Peitzmeier worked the final three innings for his first save.

Arizona Rookie League—Indians 8, Cubs 4

Indians grabbed a 3-0 led in the third and never trailed.

Hitting Recap: Kevin Zamudio slugged his fourth homer, a solo shot, and finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored while 3B Rafael Mejia smacked a two-run homer (1).

Pitching Chart: Javier Assad (2-1, 3.03 ERA) lasted three innings, allowing three runs on four hits along with seven strikeouts. Yapson Gomez surrendered four runs in three innings while Luis Aquino and Michael Rucker both threw an inning. 

Dominican Summer League—Pirates (8), Cubs 1 (0)

Four Pirate pitchers blanked the Cubs on six hits.

Hitting Recap: 2B Orian Nunez (.280) went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles as the Cubs only managed six hits.

Pitching Chart: Jesus Tejada (1-5, 3.59 ERA) got the start and lasted three innings, surrendering five runs on eight hits and two walks. Elvis Diaz blanked the Pirates for three innings and Luis Silva only got one out in the seventh before three runs scored. Juan Rengifo tossed 2.2 shutout innings.

Dominican Summer League—Cubs 2 (7), D-Backs 2 (1)

Three Cubs pitchers held the D-backs to two hits.

Hitting Recap: CF Fernando Kelli (.269) had three hits, scored three times, and swiped a pair of bases to lead the offense . 3B Richard Nunez (.281) had two hits while 2B Luis Diaz (.265), DH Abraham Rodriguez (.280) and SS Ronaldo Lopez (.138) all knocked in runs. Cubs drew seven walks and stole seven base. 

Pitching Chart: Wilfre Delgado (1-2, 4.39 ERA) fanned five and held the D-Backs to one hit over 5.1 innings of relief to earn his first pro win. Carlos Ocampo got the start and didn’t make it out of the second as two hit batters, two walks and a throwing error on a pickled to a run. Maikel Aguiar fanned three over the final two scoreless innings.
