According to various reports, the Cubs have signed RHP Josh Collmenter to a minor-league deal. The 30-year-old spent his entire career in Arizona’s organization before being released on Aug. 7. A 15th round pick in 2007, the Central Michigan product made his pro debut in 2011 and went 36-33 with a 3.51 ERA in 200 games (75 starts) and a 1.18 WHIP. Collmenter, who battled right-shoulder tightness to start the season, is expected to join Iowa and be stretched out as a starter. If he does take the hill at Iowa, he will become the 20th different starter the I-Cubs have used this year.
Pacific Coast League—AAA—Oklahoma City (Dodgers) 7, Iowa 0
Cubs were blanked for the second straight day and Oklahoma City left town with a series split.
Hitting Recap: For the second straight game, 3B Jeimer Candelario (.304) was the offense as the switch-hitter went 3-for-4. Iowa finished the game with seven hits, all singles. CF Albert Almora (.309) went 0-for-3 and left the game after hitting in the sixth with a thumb injury per Tommy Birch of Des Moines Register.
Pitching Chart: Trevor Cahill (0-3, 4.58 ERA) made his sixth start and second in five days as the right-hander threw 36 pitches—2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K—allowing a pair of homers. Jake Buchanan gave up four runs in the sixth and surrendered seven hits with four strikeouts over four innings. Armando Rivero added two scoreless and Jose Rosario pitched the ninth.
I-Cubs Notes: I-Cubs have Thursday off and head to Fresno for four games.
Smokies had the day off and are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Pensacola. RH Tyler Skulina (4-10 5.40 ERA) is scheduled to start.
Carolina League—High A—Salem (Red Sox) 2, Myrtle Beach 1
Three walks and a wild pitch pushed across the winning run for the Red Sox in the tenth and snapped the Cubs 10-game win streak.
Pitching Chart: Trevor Clifton gave up a run in the first as a walk, a fielding error, and a error on a errant pickoff throw by Clifton plated a run. The right-hander went six innings and held the Red Sox to three hits and two walks. Clifton fanned five, threw 95 pitches, and had a game score of 68. Daury Torrez struckout two over 1.2 shutout relief innings. Pedro Araujo go the final out of the eighth, worked a scoreless ninth but walked two in the tenth before exiting. Craig Brooks walked the first hitter he faced and then threw a wild pitch to allow the winning run to score. Brooks recorded the final two outs of the tenth.

Cubs had the day off and open a four-game series with Oscar De La Cruz (0-0, 0.93 ERA) on the mound Thursday night in Dayton.
Northwest League—Short-Season—Eugene 12, Salem-Keizer (Giants) 4
Eugene’s offense feasted on Salem-Keizer pitching for the second straight night.
Hitting Recap: 1B Trent Giambrone (.277) had a career night, going 4-for-4 and was a triple shy of the cycle. He hit his second pro homer, added two doubles, scored three times and knocked in two runs. SS Zack Short (.274) went 1-for-2 with four RBI while RF Kevonte Mitchell (.237) smacked his third homer of the season and finished 2-for-4. Every Ems starter had at least one hit.
Pitching Chart: Bailey Clark got the start and went four innings, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts. Tyson Miller (1-1, 6.35 ERA), the Cubs fourth-round pick in June, earned his first pro win, tossing three innings. The right-hander gave up two runs on five hits. Josh Conway fanned the side in the eighth but surrendered a solo homer. Wyatt Short worked a 1-2-3 ninth.
Emeralds Notes: Dylan Cease (1-0, 3.80 ERA) gets the start on Thursday night at Salem-Keizer.
Arizona Rookie League—Padres 10, Cubs 8
Padres scored three times in the eighth to outlast the Cubs.
Hitting Recap: Cubs only had six hits but did draw seven walks. 3B Rafael Mejia (.202) hit a three-run homer in the second to give the Cubs the lead. 2B Jhonny Bethencourt (.228) and C Jhonny Pereda (.274) both went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI.
Pitching Chart: Eugenio Palma got the start and was charged with six runs (two earned) on nine hits over 4.2 innings. Enrique De Los Rio allowed an unearned run over 2.1 innings Nathan Sweeney (0-1, 13.50 ERA) took the loss, surrendering a three-run homer in the eighth. Holden Cammack fanned two in a scoreless ninth.
Dominican Summer League— Indians (2), Cubs 1 (1)
Cubs went 1-for-13 with RISP and stranded 12 in the one-run loss.
Pitching Chart: Brailyn Marquez (IFA15-DR) made his tenth start and held the Tribe to one unearned run on two hits and a walk over five innings. He fanned five and had a game score of 66. Edison Novas (IFA15-DR, 2-1, 4.05 ERA) tossed three innings but gave up a run in the sixth and took the loss.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs 2 (5), Mariners (4)
Cubs (32-25) scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to down the first-place M’s (37-19).
Hitting Recap: LF Yovanny Cuevas (IFA14-DR, .226) got the scoring started in the seventh with a RBI double and 1B Fidel Matos (IFA13-V, .239) added the exclamation point with a two-run homer (3). Cubs scored twice in the first. Fernando Kelli (IFA15-V, .260) reached on an error, took third on a single and stole home. 3B Richard Nunez (IFA13-DR, .279) added a sacrifice fly.
Pitching Chart: Emilio Ferrebus (IFA14-V) got the start and went 4.2 frames, allowing four runs on three hits and three walks. He fanned two and had a game score of 47. Fauris Guerrero (IFA14-DR, 4-3, 2.68 ERA) kept the M’s off the board the final 4.1 frames, allowing four hits while fanning three.
Cubs Notes: 24-year-old right-hander Luiz Escanio (IFA12) has been suspended 144 games after testing positive for a PED (Boldenone). In 10 games for Cubs 2, Escanio went 3-1 with a 1.45 ERA in 18.2 innings with 28 K and three saves in his fourth DSL season. Escanio was suspended 72 games last June after testing positive for Stanozolol.
