Fresno took a 3-0 lead in the second and took the series opener from the I-Cubs.
Hitting Recap: Iowa collected 12 hits as C Tim Federowicz (.282) was 2-for-4 with his fifth homer and three RBI. CF Juan Perez (.279) went 3-for-4 with a double while 1B Kris Negron (.248) and DH Cael Brockmeyer (.213) had two hits each.
Pitching Chart: Added to the Iowa roster earlier in the day, LH Brian Matusz (0-1, 3.97 ERA) got the start for Iowa and tossed two innings, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk. Miguel Mejia pitched three scoreless but Gerardo Concepcion got roughed up for five runs, including a pair of homers. Corey Black worked around four walks over the final 1.2 scoreless frames.
I-Cubs Notes: Rob Zastryzny (6-3, 4.03 ERA) gets the start Saturday night as the lefty hasn’t allowed a run over his last two starts......Iowa placed LHP C.J. Riefenhauser on the DL with a calf strain and activated LHP Brian Matusz.

The Blue Wahoos used a walk-of and a complete game shutout to sweep the Smokies.
Hitting Recap: GAME 1—LF Kelly Dugan (.229) tied the game when play resumed on Friday with a solo homer (9) in the third. The Smokies took a 3-2 lead in the sixth on DH Victor Caratini's two-run homer (6). Dugan finished 2-for-4 and C David Freitas (.299) added two singles..... GAME 2—Only five singles in the nightcap, two from 1B Benjamin Carhart (.240).
Pitching Chart: GAME 1—Tyler Skulina went 1.2 inning before rain halted play, giving up a run on two hits and two walks. Juan Paniagua worked 3.1 frames and got charged with one run, fanning five. David Berg pitched a scoreless frame and Stephen Perakslis whiffed three in two shutout innings. David Garner (1-6, 4.24 ERA) only got one out in the ninth before a two-run single gave the Blue Wahoos the win...... GAME 2—Jen-Ho Tseng (5-6, 3.77 ERA) got touched up for eight runs on 10 hits and a walk over 4.1 innings. R.J. Alvarez got the final two outs in the fifth and Jack Leathersich worked a scoreless sixth.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 7, Carolina (Braves) 5
Donnie Dewees collected three hits, including his second Carolina League homer, as the Pelicans took the series opener.

C Ian Rice (.240) went 2-for-5 with two run scored while 1B David Bote (.309), DH Yasiel Balaguert (.252), 2B Bryant Flete (.361), 3B Jesse Hodges (.236) and SS Andrew Ely (.230) all plated runs.

Daniel Lewis and Tommy Thorpe both pitched a scoreless frame while Daury Torrez surrendered a run in the eighth. Ryan McNeil worked around a hit and walk in the ninth for his 20th save.

DH Alberto Mineo (.253) smacked a three-run homer in third inning while CF Connor Myers (.245) had a career-high four hits and scored twice. RF Roberto Caro (.237) went 1-for-2 with two runs scored, two walks and a RBI. C P.J. Higgins (.276) scored three times as he singled and walked twice.
Pitching Chart: Adbert Alzolay (8-4, 4.19 ERA) blanked the Dragon for five innings, allowing four hits and a walk. The right-hander threw 90 pitches, fanned six and had a game score of 66. John Williamson allowed a run over two innings and Jared Cheek got the final six outs, three on strikes.

Manuel Rondon and four relievers combined to blank Spokane as the Ems won their eighth straight.
Hitting Recap: Eugene scored the only run of the game in the fifth when Zack Short (.288) singled, swiped second and scored on a single from Wladimir Galindo (.251). Ems had seven singles in the win, two from 1B Trent Giambrone (.280).
Pitching Chart: Manuel Rondon (6-0, 1.27 ERA) tossed five shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks in the 80-pitch outing. The lefty fanned six and had a game score of 66. The bullpen didn’t allow a hit. Marc Huberman, M.T. Minacci and Chad Hockin all tossed a scoreless frame and Mark Malave fanned the side in the ninth for his seventh save.
Emeralds Notes: Eugene looks to make nine straight as they send Pedro Silverio (1-2, 6.49 ERA) to the hill on Saturday night.

Cubs only managed two hits and were blanked by the Rangers.
Pitching Chart: Pablo Ochoa (1-4, 6.95 ERA) got the start and gave up five runs on eight hits and a walk over three innings. Luis Aquino fanned six in four shutout frames while Colton Freeman and Jose Leidenz both threw a scoreless inning.
Cubs Notes: The Cubs have signed non-drafted free agent Carlos Diaz, who hit .409/.465/.620 with 6 HR and 57 RBI in 48 games for Jackson State. The catcher started his college career at the University of Miami and then transferred to Palm Beach State. He went 0-for-3 with a walk in his pro debut on Friday night.
Dominican Summer League—Yankees 1 (7), Cubs 1 (4)
Cubs had 13 hits but could only manage four runs.
Pitching Chart: Jose Mac Donna (2.62 ERA) got the start and allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings. Fernando Calderon (0-3, 9.39 ERA) took the loss, giving up two runs in the seventh after the Cubs had tied the game at 4-4. Miguel Estevez surrendered a run in the ninth.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs 2 (7), Dodgers 1 (6)
Hector Garcia tossed six solid innings and the offense collected 11 hits.
Hitting Recap: C Daniel Diaz (.186) had three hits and a RBI while 3B Richard Nunez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one knocked in. 2B Luis Diaz (.264) had two hits and scored twice and RF Luis Ubiera (.192) added a pair of RBI.
Pitching Chart: Hector Garcia (4-1, 1.84 ERA) fanned seven over six innings, limiting the Dodgers to two runs on six hits. Game score 65. Yan De La Cruz only got one out in the seventh, surrendering three runs on two hits and two walks.
