Pacific Coast League—AAA—Iowa 5, Sacramento (Giants) 1
Iowa won its fourth straight road game and took the series opener at Sacramento.
Hitting Recap: Cubs scored four times in the fifth as they loaded the bases with one out. A balk tied the game and John Andreoli made it 2-1 with a sacrifice fly. Juan Perez and Jeimer Candelario followed with RBI single for a 4-1 advantage. Perez added another RBI single in the ninth. Andreoli, Perez and Stephen Bruno all had two hits. It was Bruno AAA debut as he had been rehabbing at Eugene after starting the year in Tennessee.
Pitching Chart: Jake Buchanan fired seven solid innings as the River Cats only scored once on seven hits and two walks. Buchanan fanned four in the 103-pitch outing for a game score of 65. Corey Black struckout three over two scoreless frames for his sixth save.
I-Cubs Notes: Iowa has not named a starter for Wednesday night.
Smokies had Tuesday off and Jacksonville comes to town for five games. Tyler Skulina (4-10, 5.40 ERA) gets the start on Wednesday.
Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 4, Winston-Salem (White Sox) 3—10 innings
Yasiel Balaguert’s single in the bottom of the tenth gave the Pelicans the walk-off win.
Hitting Recap: Pelicans trailed 3-1 but scored in the eight, ninth and tenth for the win. In the tenth, CF Donnie Dewees (.301) led off with a single, stolen second and scored the winning run on 1B Yasiel Balaguert’s single to right field. 3B Jesse Hodges’ sacrifice fly tied the game in the ninth and Dewees scored on a wild pitch in the eighth. Balaguert (.256) finished 3-for-5 and added a RBI double in the sixth. 2B David Bote (.319) went 2-for-5 and LF Charcer Burks (.246) was on base three times with a single and two walks.
Pitching Chart: The Dash were aggressive early in the count with right-hander Trevor Clifton, collecting nine hits and three runs over six innings. Clifton fanned six and had a game score of 53 in the 93-pitch outing. The bullpen blanked the Dash down. Scott Effross worked two scoreless frames and Daniel Lewis (3-0, 3.68 ERA) added two more shutdown innings to earn the win.
Pelicans News: Preston Morrison (2-0, 1.37 ERA) gets the start on Wednesday night against Winston-Salem.
Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 3, Bowling Green (Rays) 2
Cubs grabbed an early lead and hung on to beat Bowling Green for the second straight tonight.
Hitting Recap: Cubs did all their scoring in the second. SS Vimael Machin (.200) ripped a one-out single and scored on a triple from LF Roberto Caro (.252). Caro trotted home on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead. CF Connor Myers (.254) reached second after striking out and a throwing error on the catcher. 2B Carlos Sepulveda (.325) delivered a line drive to center to score Myers. Sepulveda and Caro both finished with two hits. OF Eloy Jimenez was not in the lineup for the second straight night after leaving the game on Aug. 13.
Pitching Chart: Ryan Kellogg (7-7, 3.15 ERA) got the start and kept the Hot Rods in check for five innings, yielding one run on three hits and three walks. The left-hander threw 89 pitches, 51 for strikes, fanned three and had a game score of 58. Carson Sands fanned two in a scoreless inning of relief while Tanner Griggs gave up a run in the seventh and tossed a scoreless eight. Jared Cheek worked around a hit and a walk in the ninth for his third save.

Northwest League—Short-Season—Eugene 13, Spokane (Rangers) 8
Emeralds used a five-run seventh to rally past Spokane and win their 12th straight win.
Hitting Recap: Eugene only had seven hits but took advantage of nine walks and seven Spokane errors. In the seventh, the Ems drew two walks with the bases loaded and an error by the second baseman allowed three more runs to cross home. Another error in the eighth scored two and C Marcus Mastrobuoni (.245) added a two-run triple in the ninth. DH Yeiler Peguero (.255) went 1-for-5 with two runs scored and one knocked in while CF Darryl Wilson (.263) scored twice and stole two bases (14).
Pitching Chart: Tyson Miller, the Cubs fourth-round pick in June, made his first start and went 3.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts. M.T. Minacci gave up four runs over 1.2 frames and Marc Huberman (2-0, 1.35 ERA) got the win with 1.2 shutout relief innings. Chad Hockin surrendered two runs on four hits in the eighth and Mark Malave tossed a 1-2-3 ninth.
Emeralds Notes: Ems return home on Wednesday night to host Boise and no starter has been named.
Arizona Rookie League—Cubs
Cubs had Tuesday off and are back in action on Wednesday against the White Sox. Twelve games remain in the AZL schedule and the Cubs have already qualified for the playoffs.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs 1 (6), Mets 1 (4)
Cubs scored two runs in the top of the tenth to down the Mets.
Hitting Recap: 3B Jose Rojas’ (IFA14-V, .204) RBI double gave the Cubs the lead in the tenth and DH Henderson Perez (IFA15-V, .216) added an insurance run with another run-scoring double. 1B Franklin Tineo (IFA13-DR, .238) went 3-for-5 and scored twice while 3B Orian Nunez (IFA15-DR, .274) was 1-for-3 with a RBI. Perez finished 2-for-2 and drew three walks as he was on base five times.
Pitching Chart: Yunior Perez (IFA15-DR) worked a 1-2-3 first, the only inning he pitched. Jesus Tejada (IFA14-DR) threw four innings, fanning three and giving up one unearned run. Moises Ramirez (IFA12-DR, 2-1, 1.98 ERA) got charged with a blown save as the Mets scored three unearned runs in the sixth. Ramirez worked four innings and got the win. Elvis Diaz (FA15-DR) pitched the tenth for his second save.
