Pacific Coast League—AAA—Memphis (Cardinals) 4, Iowa 1
Memphis (61-67) scored all the runs they would need in the first and evened the series with Iowa (58-71).
Hitting Recap: Cubs scored their only run in the fourth when singles by CF Juan Perez (.279), 3B Jeimer Candelario (.316) and C Tim Federowicz (.286) scored a run and had two on with no outs. Two strikeouts and a pop out ended the threat. Candelario and Federowicz both finished with two hits as all seven of Iowa’s hits were singles.
Pitching Chart: Jake Buchanan (11-8. 4.53 ERA) surrendered three runs, including a pair in the first, on seven hits over seven innings. The right-hander fanned six and had a game score of 65. Miguel Mejia (6.09 ERA) worked around two walks in the eighth and Gerardo Concepcion (8.03 ERA) gave up a run on three hits in the ninth.
I-Cubs Notes: Stephen Fife (0-1, 4.11 ERA) makes his second start on Monday night at Iowa since returning from the DL.
Southern League—AA—Jacksonville (Marlins) 5, Tennessee 2
Suns pitching limited Tennessee to five hits and took four-of-five at Smokies Stadium.
Hitting Recap: 1B David Freitas was the offense, going 2-for-3 with a solo homer in the second (3) and then scored the Smokies run in the fourth. 2B Ian Happ (.272) went 1-for-3 with a walk while LF Kelly Dugan (.231) added a RBI on a groundout.
Pitching Chart: Zach Hedges (3-2, 2.36 ERA) and his 19 innings scoreless streak lasted two batters as the Suns scored in the first and added four more before the right-hander’s day was over. Hedges finished with a line of 4.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, Game score 30. The bullpen kept the Suns in check. Juan Paniagua (4.15 ERA) fanned three in 1.2 scoreless and David Berg (6.81 ERA) tossed a 1-2-3 seventh. R.J. Alvarez (7.58 ERA) worked the final two innings.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 7, Lynchburg (Indians) 6—10 innings
Ian Rice tied the game in the ninth with a two-run homer and then won it with a walk-off single in the tenth.
Hitting Recap: DH Ian Rice (.248) delivered a game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth and then capped off the celebration with a walk-off RBI single in the 10th. 1B Yasiel Balaguert (.257) ripped a double to lead off the ninth and Rice followed with his six homer for Myrtle Beach and 15th of the season. Rice finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored. SS Andrew Ely (.248) had three hits and knocked in a run while RF Jeffrey Baez (.245) was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and one knocked in.
Pitching Chart: James Pugliese blanked the Hillcats for five innings but the Pelicans used three pitchers to get through the sixth. Pugliese finished with a line of 5.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5K in the 86-pitch outing. In the sixth, a walk, a double and a line out ended the day for Pugliese. Craig Brooks entered the game but two hits, a hit by pitch and a walk plated three runs. Scott Effross then allowed a RBI ground out and a two-run double as the Hellcats grabbed a 6-4 lead. Effross added a scoreless seventh. Tommy Nance (2-0, 2.00 ERA) fanned four over three shutout relief innings and earned the win.

Midwest League—Low A—Lansing (Blue Jays) 3, South Bend 2
Lansing made the most of their five hits and took the series from the Cubs.
Hitting Recap: Cubs had 12 hits but were 2-for-11 with RISP and stranded 13. LF Roberto Caro (.248) went 4-for-4 and knocked in a run while C Alberto Mineo (.250) added two singles and a RBI. RF Eddy Martinez (.259) had two hits, including his 23rd double.
Pitching Chart: Casey Bloomquist (8-7, 2.76 ERA) got the start and worked into the sixth, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks in the 84-pitch outing. Bloomquist fanned four, threw two wild pitches, hit a batter and had a game score of 51. Greyfer Eregua (3.97 ERA) allowed both inherited runners to score in the sixth (sac fly and throwing error) and blanked the Lugnuts the next three innings.

Northwest League—Short-Season—Everett (Mariners) 4, Eugene 1
Aqua Sox made it two straight over the Emeralds.
Hitting Recap: Ems only run of the night came in the fifth on a solo homer from 2B Trent Giambrone (.308), his third of the season. Giambrone added a single as the Ems were held to two hits.
Pitching Chart: Erling Moreno (0.45 ERA) tossed another solid outing as the right-hander only allowed a solo homer over five hints, one of three hits. He fanned one, didn’t issue a walk and recorded 11 ground ball outs in the efficient 53-pitch outing, 35 for strikes. Tyler Peitzmeier (2.25 ERA) took the loss, surrendering two runs in the seventh. Chad Hockin (8.00 ERA) worked a scoreless eighth and Mark Malave (3.38 ERA) gave up a run in the ninth.
