Pacific Coast League—AAA—Iowa 7, Memphis (Cardinals) 2
Homers by Tim Federowicz and Bijan Rademacher helped the I-Cubs to the win.
Hitting Recap: Cubs grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second on back-to-back doubles by 2B Tommy La Stella and 1B Taylor Davis. CF John Andreoli singled in the fifth with two outs, stole second and scored on a triple from SS Munenori Kawasaki. C Tim Federowicz made it 4-0 with a two-run homer (8) in the sixth. Matt Murton added a pinch-hit RBI single and Andreoli added a RBI groundout in the four-run sixth. LF Bijan Rademacher hit his first AAA homer, a solo shot in the eighth, and finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Pitching Chart: Stephen Fife (3.26 ERA) got the start and threw four shutout innings, 68 pitches, 41 for strikes. The right-hander allowed two hits, walked one and fanned four. Armando Rivero (4-3, 2.07 ERA) struckout five over two scoreless and got credit for the win. Pierce Johnson (6.87 ERA) gave up a solo homer while Joe Thatcher (4.67 ERA) only got two outs in the ninth and allowed a run on three hits. Corey Black (5.11 ERA) recorded the final out.

Southern League—AA—Tennessee 10, Jackson (Mariners) 7
Smokies scored five times in their final two at-bats and took the series opener.
Hitting Recap: CF Lane Adams went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI while 2B Ian Happ and C David Freitas both homered. DH Chesny Young (.302) had two doubles and two RBI while RF Kelly Dugan (.236) and 1B Victor Caratini (.297) had two hits.
Pitching Chart: Tyler Skulina got the start and lasted 3.1 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks. Stephen Perakslis gave up a run over 2.2 frames while Nick Sarianides (3-2, 3.28 ERA) got the win with two scoreless frames, fanning three. James Farris gave up a run in the ninth.
Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach
Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 8, West Michigan (Tigers) 2
South Bend knocked out 14 hits to take the series opener over the Whitecaps.
Hitting Recap: DH Samuel Tidaback (.375) went 2-for-4 and knocked in two runs while C P.J. Higgins (.273) added three hits and a RBI. LF Eloy Jimenez (.337) said his first action for the first time in eight days and went 2-for-5 with a run scored. Jimenez had a “lower body injury” after crashing into a wall. 2B Carlos Sepulveda (.320), RF Eddy Martinez (.261) and SS Andruw Monasterio (.209) all finished with two hits.
Pitching Chart: Duane Underwood tossed three no-hit innings, allowing a walk while fanning five. Underwood threw 35 pitches, 27 for strikes, in his second rehab appearance for the Cubs. Ryan Kellogg (8-7, 3.23 ERA) fired three frames, giving up two runs on two hits. The left-hander fanned one and threw 30 pitches. John Williamson (2.49 ERA) tossed two no-hit frames and Jared Cheek (3.60 ERA) worked a scoreless ninth.

Northwest League—Short-Season—Eugene 1, Everett (Mariners) 0
Darryl Wilson’s walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth gave the Ems the win.
Hitting Recap: Eugene only had three hits entering the bottom of the ninth but three straight singles provided the celebration. 1B Jose Paniagua (.203) ripped a one-out single and advanced to third on a hit from RF Jose Gonzalez (.111). CF Darryl Wilson (.262) followed with a line drive to right for the win. LF Chris Pieters went 2-for-4.
Pitching Chart: Tyson Miller (3.95 ERA) blanked the AquaSox for 4.1 innings, throwing 73 pitches, 49 for strikes. He scattered five hits and two walks while fanning three. It was longest outing of his short pro career. Michael Knighton (1.77 ERA) stranded an inherited runner in the fifth and tossed two more scoreless frames. Andin Diaz (2-0, 4.80 ERA) got the win, fanning two over two shutout innings.
Emeralds Notes: Dylan Cease (1-0, 2.93 ERA) gets the start on Tuesday night against Everett.
Arizona Rookie League—A’s 6, Cubs 3
A’s jumped out to a 5-0 lead and downed the Cubs.
Pitching Chart: Javier Assad got the start and went three innings, surrendering four runs on five hits and two walks. Nathan Sweeney allowed a run in the fourth and Enrique De Los Rio went three frames, giving up a run in the sixth. Luis Aquino kept the A’s off the board the final two innings.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs 1 (8), Indians (4)—Suspended after 4.5 innings
Cubs held a four-run lead after play was suspended in the fifth.
Hitting Recap: CF Jose Gutierrez went 2-for-3 and six different players plated runs.
Pitching Chart: Jesus Tejada worked four innings and gave up four runs on five hits but they were all unearned.
Dominican Summer League—Cubs 2 (5), Giants (3)—7 innings
Cubs scored three times in the first and won the rain shortened game.
Pitching Chart: Emilio Ferrebus (1-6, 4.45 ERA) won for the first time this season, allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Ivan Medina got the final out of the sixth, stranding one inherited runner.null
