Myrtle Beach continues to rack up wins in the Carolina League while Tennessee used a eight-run inning to beat Birmingham.

Pacific Coast League—AAA—Omaha (Royals) 7, Iowa 2

Cubs were held to five hits and didn’t score until the ninth.

Hitting Recap: Iowa was blanked for the first eight frames and scored twice in the ninth on a RBI double from C Tim Federowicz (.290) and a fielding error. LF John Andreoli (.254), 2B Tommy La Stella (.273), CF Albert Almora (.307) and 3B Jeimer Candelario (.322) all singled. 

Pitching Chart: Stephen Fife (0-2, 5.40 ERA) got the start and got tagged for seven runs on 10 hits and two walks over four innings. Cubs bullpen tossed five scoreless frames— Giovanni Soto (2 IP), Corey Black (2 IP) and Joe Thatcher (1 IP). 

I-Cubs Notes: Cubs send Josh Collmenter (0-0, 1.50 ERA) to the mound on Monday night at Nashville......IF Stephen Bruno was placed in the temporarily inactive list.....Iowa sent LHP Brian Matusz to Mesa for a rehab assignment......Chicago Cubs assigned RHP Joe Smith to Iowa for a rehab assignment. 

Southern League—AA—Tennessee 11, Birmingham (White Sox) 5

Smokies scored eight times in the fifth and downed the Barons.

Hitting Recap: RF Lane Adams (.325) went 3-for-5 and knocked in four runs to lead the offense that collected seven hits and drew 13 walks. C Gioskar Amaya (.162) drove in a pair of runs and scored twice while SS Carlos Penalver (.210) was on base four times with a double and three walks, scoring twice.

Pitching Chart: Jen-Ho Tseng (6-7, 3.90 ERA) got the win, allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits and a walk. He fanned four in the 100-pitch outing, 67 for strikes. David Garner gave up a run over two frames and R.J. Alvarez fanned two in a 1-2-3 ninth.

Smokies News: Tyler Skulina (4-11, 5.62 ERA) gets the ball on Monday night against Birmingham.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 8, Wilmington (Royals) 7

Pelicans flew out to a 8-2 lead and hung on for the seventh straight win.

Hitting Recap: Myrtle Beach collected 14 hits in the win and took advantage of three wild pitches that scored runs. C Erick Castillo (.199) went 3-for-5 while CF Donnie Dewees (.289), 1B Yasiel Balaguert (.256), DH Ian Rice (.254), RF Jeffrey Baez (.246) and SS Andrew Ely (.251) all had two hits.

Pitching Chart: Erick Leal (2.98 ERA) got the start and only went two innings in his first start since going on the DL. The right-hander allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while fanning two. Daniel Lewis (5-0, 2.93) got the win, tossing three shutout frames with three strikeouts. Scott Effross (7.27 ERA) only got one out in the six, getting charged with four runs on six hits. Tommy Nance (2.08 ERA) stranded two of the three inherited runners in the sixth and went 2.2 frames, surrendering a run in the eighth while fanning three. Ryan McNeil (2.44 ERA) worked around a hit and a walk in the ninth for his Carolina League best 21st save.

Pelicans News: Myrtle Beach has Monday off and send Trevor Clifton (7-7, 2.87 ERA) to the mound on Tuesday night as Lynchburg comes to town.

Midwest League—Low A—Great Lakes (Dodgers) 2, South Bend 0

Cubs dropped their fourth straight and look to avoid the sweep on Monday.

Hitting Recap: South Bend’s offense continues to slump as the Cubs were held to three hits. DH P.J. Higgins (.273) was on base four times with a single and three walks. C Tyler Alamo (.244) and CF Connor Myers (.214) both singled.

Pitching Chart: Duane Underwood (0-1, 2.08 ERA) made his third rehab start for South Bend and went 3.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks. The right-hander fanned five in the 60-pitch outing. Greyfer Eregua (3.80 ERA) tossed 3.1 shutout relief innings and Jared Cheek (3.14 ERA) worked two scoreless frames.

SB-Cubs News: Ryan Kellogg (8-7, 3.23 ERA) gets the ball on Monday night against Great Lakes......South Bend activated C/1B Tyler Alamo from the DL and assigned C Samuel Tidaback to Eugene.

Northwest League—Short-Season—Eugene 6, Salem Keizer (Giants) 5

Ems scored three times in the top of the eight and hung on for the win.

Hitting Recap: Ems collected 11 hits as RF Jose Gonzalez (.200) went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. CF Darryl Wilson (.266), SS Yeiler Peguero (.255) and 2B Trent Giambrone (.307) all had two hits. C Tyler Payne (.246) hit a two-run homer (3) in the Ems three-run eighth and LF Kevonte Mitchell (.239) added a solo blast (5) in the seventh.

Pitching Chart: Erling Moreno continues to impress in the NWL as the right-hander only allowed a solo homer, one of two hits over five innings. The 19-year-old fanned six and had a game score of 63 in the 72-pitch outing. Jed Carter (2-0, 7.20 ERA) got credit for the win, allowing a run on a hit and a walk in the sixth. Dakota Mekkes (2.40 ERA) fanned three over two frames while Mark Malave (3.12 ERA) earned his eighth save, getting charged with a pair of unearned runs in the ninth.

Emeralds Notes: Tyson Miller (1-1, 3.95 ERA) gets the start on Monday night as the Ems host Tri-City.....RHP Michael Rucker has been promoted from Mesa to Eugene.

Arizona Rookie League—A’s 5, Cubs 3

A’s used a three-run sixth to down the Cubs. 

Hitting Recap: Cubs collected 10 hits in the loss as CF Tolly Filotei (.167), RF Kwang-Min Kwon (.280), Yohan Matos (.238), and Jhonny Bethencourt (.232) all had two hits. 

Pitching Chart: Andry Rondon (7.15 ERA) only went one inning, allowing a run on two walks and a hit. Luis Aquino (0-3, 5.01 ERA) took the loss, giving up three runs on five hits over 4.1 frames. Yapson Gomez (2.47 ERA) blanked the A’s for 1.1 innings and position player Yohan Matos surrendered a solo homer in the eighth.

Cubs Notes: Cubs play their final regular season game on Monday night against the A’s.
