Pacific Coast League—AAA—Nashville (A’s) 6, Iowa 5
Nashville used a walk-off triple to take the series finale from the I-Cubs.
Hitting Recap: After six shutout frames, the Cubs scored twice in the seventh on five walks and a wild pitch. They tied the game in the eighth when Lane Adams slugged his first homer for the I-Cubs to lead off the frame and Matt Murton added a RBI double. Cubs tied the game in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Logan Watkins, scoring Jeimer Candelario, who led off with a double.
Pitching Chart: Stephen Fife has his best outing in a Cubs uniform, fanning six over four shutout frames. He allowed two hits and walked two in the 70-pitch outing, 40 for strikes. Giovanni Soto tossed a scoreless fifth but never made it out of the sixth, surrendering four runs on four hits and a walk. Joe Thatcher recorded the final out of the sixth but not before allowing both inherited runners to score. Jack Leathersich got charged with an unearned run in the eighth and Gerardo Concepcion game with a single and and atriple in the bottom of the ninth.
I-Cubs Notes: Iowa had not named a starter for Friday night’s game at Principal Park against Colorado Springs.....OF Chris Coghlan and RHP Joe Smith have ended their rehab stints and returned to Chicago. The Cubs also promoted RHP Jake Buchanan...OF Lane Adams was promoted to Iowa from Tennessee.
Southern League—AA—Montgomery (Rays) 3, Tennessee 2
Biscuits downed the Smokies in the series opener.
Hitting Recap: Smokies were blanked for the first eight innings but scored twice in the ninth on a two-run double from David Freitas. DH Chesny Young (.304) went 4-for-4 and took over the lead in the Southern League batting race.
Smokies News: Jen-Ho Tseng (6-7, 3.90 ERA) gets the ball on Friday night in his final start of the season.
Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 7, Lynchburg (Indians) 1
A five-run fifth and the right arm of Jeremy Null gave the Pelicans the series won over the Hillcats.
Hitting Recap: Pelicans grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first when CF Donnie Dewees (.282) tripled and scored on a ground out to third by 3B David Bote (.346). It was Dewees second CL triple after having 12 in South Bend. Myrtle Beach took control in the fifth, scoring five times, the final two coming on 2B Bryant Flete’s second homer. Bote and 1B Yasiel Balaguert (.257) both plated runs and a wild pitch allowed another run to score. Bote added a solo homer (5) in the seventh and finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and extended his on-base streak to 24 games. LF Charcer Burks (.247) went 2-for-5 with a triple and a run scored.
Pitching Chart: Jeremy Null (5-5, 4.24 ERA) turned in his second straight impressive outing, working six shutout frames before surrendering a run in the seventh. The 6-foot-7 right-hander threw 86 pitches, 56 for strikes, and ended the night with a line of 6.2 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. Game score 67. Daniel Lewis (2.79 ERA) got the final out of the seventh and tossed a scoreless eighth. James Pugliese (3.87 ERA) worked a 1-2-3 ninth.

Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 5, West Michigan (Tigers) 3
Hitting Recap: 3B Adonis Paula put the Cubs on the board in the second with a sacrifice fly, scoring SS Vimael Machin (.245), who led off the frames with a double. Machin delivered a two-run single in the third and RF Eddy Martinez (.257) scored on a sacrifice fly from C Alberto Mineo (.243) for a 4-0 Cubs advantage. Paula added a RBI groundout in the sixth. Mineo finished 3-for-3 while P.J. Higgins and Machin had two hits each.
Pitching Chart: Jose Paulino (3-1, 3.15 ERA) kept the Whitecaps off the board the first three frames despite having runners on each inning. West Michigan broke through in the fourth after a leadoff double and the left-hander finished with a line of 5 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K in the 93-pitch outing. Greyfer Eregua (3.77 ERA) allowed a run over three innings and Dillon Maples (3.00 ERA) only got one out in the ninth, walking the bases full. Jared Cheek got the final two outs for his fourth save, stranding two of the three inherited runners.

Northwest League—Short-Season—Eugene 4, Tri-City (Padres) 0
Pedro Silverio and two relievers blanked the Dust Devils on three hits.
Hitting Recap: Ems got all the runs they would need in the second when Trent Giambrone and Tyler Payne both scored on a sacrifice fly by Jose Paniagua. Yeiler Peguero’s bunt single plated Robert Garcia in the third and a wild pitch scored Giambrone in the fourth. Garcia finished 2-for-4.
Pitching Chart: Pedro Silverio (3-2, 4.50 ERA) fanned seven over five innings and only allowed a hit and a walk. The right-hander threw 74 pitches and had a game score of 73. Dakota Mekkes (2.12 ERA) retired all six hitters he faced, two on strikes, and Michael Rucker (0.00 ERA) recorded five punchouts over the final two frames.
