Iowa made it two in a row in the final home stand of the season.
Hitting Recap: 3B Jeimer Candelario (.333) went 3-for-4, scored twice and knocked in a run to lead the offensive attack. CF Albert Almora (.305), 2B Juan Perez (.271) and 1B Taylor Davis (.248) added RBI.
Pitching Chart: Josh Collmenter (1-0, 1.93 ERA) won his first game at Iowa, allowing a run over five innings. The right-hander gave up six hits, walked one and fanned three in the 91-pitch outing. Armando Rivero (2.13 ERA) added 2.2 scoreless frames and Corey Black (5.04 ERA) recorded the final four outs.

Southern League—AA—Montgomery (Rays) 3, Tennessee 2
Tennessee tied the game in the ninth but the Biscuits walked off in the bottom of the inning.
Hitting Recap: Smokies only run over the first eight frames came on a solo homer off the bat of RF Kelly Dugan (.256), his 13th. In the ninth trailing 2-1, 2B Ian Happ (.266) led of with a single, took third on a base hit by C David Freitas (.287) and scored on a sacrifice fly by DH Victor Caratini (.295). Chesny Young went 1-for-4 and is now hitting .300 and has a two-point lead over Chattanooga’s Zach Granite for the Southern League batting title.
Pitching Chart: Tyler Skulina (5.16 ERA) matched his season-high with seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks. The right-hander fanned five in the 101-pitch outing, 65 for strikes, for a game score of 65. Starling Peralta (6-2, 3.75 ERA) worked a scoreless eighth but didn’t retire a hitter in the ninth as the Biscuits started the frame with a leadoff double. A bunt single and a throwing error by Peralta gave Montgomery the win.

Carolina League—High A—Myrtle Beach 5, Potomac (Nationals) 4—14 innings
Myrtle Beach clinched the Southern Division second half title with a 14-inning win at Potomac.
Hitting Recap: CF Donnie Dewees (.280) delivered a RBI single in the top of the 14th that scored Tyler Pearson (.212) and gave Myrtle Beach the second half title. Pearson led off the 14th with an infield single, took second on a wild pitch and scored on Dewees’ single to right. 3B David Bote (.341) gave the Pelicans a 3-0 lead in the first on his sixth homer of the season and extended his on-base streak to 26 games. LF Charcer Burks (.244) and Dewees led off the game with singles. Bote tied the game in the sixth when he singled and eventually scored on a passed ball. 1B Yasiel Balaguert (.260) led the offense with three hits while Dewees, Bote, Pearson and RF Jeffrey Baez (.241) all had two hits.
Pitching Chart: Erick Leal (3.23 ERA) didn’t miss many bats on Saturday night as the P-Nats scored four times over the first four frames, collecting eight hits. Leal threw 69 pitches and had a game score of 36. LH Tommy Thorpe (3.59 ERA) fanned four over three scoreless and RH Tommy Nance (2.67 ERA) added three more shutout innings. RH Daniel Lewis (2.59 ERA) worked around a hit and four walks for two scoreless but ran into trouble in the 13th after two singles. RH Scott Effross (1-0, 5.73 ERA) got the final two outs of the 13th and blanked the Nationals in the 14th to earn the win.

Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 7, Dayton (Reds) 4
Matt Rose blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to give South Bend the win.
Hitting Recap: With the game tied at 4-4, 1B Matt Rose (.241) smashed a 436-foot bomb (13) into the Fun Zone for a 6-4 lead. C Tyler Alamo (.241) added a RBI single in the Cubs final at-bat and also slugged his 5th homer, a solo shot in the Cubs three-run second. A wild pitch scoring 3B Adonis Paula (.201) and a RBI single by DH P.J. Higgins (.281) put South Bend up 3-2. CF Connor Myers (.228) went 3-for-5 and scored twice while Higgins and Alamo both finished with two hits. SS Isaac Paredes singled in four at-bats in his MWL debut.
Pitching Chart: Casey Bloomquist (3.00 ERA) got the first two hitters of the game but surrendered a single, a walk and a two-run double. Bloomquist added three shutout frames and ended his night after 64 pitches. John Williamson (2.37 ERA) fanned three over three innings, allowing a run on three hits. Jared Cheek (2-0, 3.18 ERA) got charged with a blown save after allowing a run in the eighth but worked a scoreless ninth to earn the win.
SB-Cubs News: Justin Steele (5-7, 5.30 ERA) takes the hill Sunday afternoon at Four Winds Field.....South Bend placed SS Andruw Monasterio on the DL and SS Isaac Paredes has been promoted from Mesa. The 17-year-old was named an AZL post-season all-star after hitting .305/.359/.443 with a homer in 47 games......OF Eloy Jimenez took batting practice on Saturday and is expected to return from his hamstring injury for the first game of the playoffs.
Northwest League—Short-Season—Hillsboro (D-Backs) 1, Eugene 0
Hillsboro took the series opener in a preview of the first round of the playoffs.
Pitching Chart: Erling Moreno (2-1, 0.0 ERA) gave up the only run of the game in the third after a balk moved a runner into scoring position and a single plated the run. The 20-year-old right-hander went five frames, allowing two hits and two walks while fanning four in the 70-pitch outing. Michael Knighton (1.72 ERA) worked a scoreless sixth and Tyler Peitzmeier (2.53 ERA) hung a pair of zeros.
