All three series involving Cubs affiliates will be decided on Friday night

South Bend and Eugene flew the “W” to force a Game 3 while Myrtle Beach fell to Salem.

Carolina League—High A—Salem 5, Myrtle Beach 1

Salem hit a pair of homers and tied the series to force a decide game on Friday night.

Hitting Recap: Pelicans collected seven hits and drew four walks but could only plate one run. In the fourth, LF Charcer Burks led off with a single, took second on a wild pitch, and scored on 3B David Bote’s single to center. Burks and SS Andrew Ely both had two hits. Myrtle Beach was 2-for-8 with RISP and stranded nine.

Pitching Chart: Salem roughed up Preston Morrison for five runs on nine hits and a walk over 4.2 innings, two hits leaving the park. The right-hander fanned four and threw 81 pitches, 50 for strikes. Daniel Lewis tossed 1.1 scoreless frames and James Norwood kept the Red Sox off the board for two innings.

Midwest League—Low A—South Bend 6, West Michigan 2

Tyler Alamo and Matt Rose homered as South Bend forced a deciding game to be played on Friday night at Four Winds Field.

Hitting Recap: Trailing 2-0 in the second, LF Eloy Jimenez led off with a single and took second on a base hit from RF Eddy Martinez. After a sacrifice bunt by Vimael Machin, SS Isaac Paredes scored Jimenez on sacrifice fly to right. Tyler Alamo followed with a RBI double to tie the game. Alamo gave the Cubs the lead for good in the sixth on a long solo homer over the left-field wall. Matt Rose added insurance in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run homer, scoring 2B Carlos Sepulveda (single) and C P.J. Higgins (double). Martinez finished the game 3-for-5 while Alamo and Sepulveda both had two hits.

Pitching Chart: Jose Paulino gave up two runs in the second but kept the Whitecaps off the board the other five innings. The left-hander fanned two while allowing five hits and a walk in the 86-pitch outing. Game score 60. Casey Bloomquist only gave up a hit over the final three frames and got credit for the save. The right-hander only needed 31 pitches, 23 for strikes, and fanned two.

Northwest League—Short-Season—Eugene 6, Hillsboro 2

Darryl Wilson had three hits and scored three times while Pedro Silverio tossed five shutout inning as Eugene forced a Game 3.

Hitting Recap: Ems jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on three straight singles by CF Darryl Wilson, 2B Yeiler Peguero and 1B Chris Pieters, both runs scoring on Pieters’ hit. They were back at in the second when LF Kevonte Mitchell tripled and scored on a bunt single from Wilson down the first base line. Peguero  followed with a RBI single to right-center, scoring RF Robert Garcia, who reached on an infield single. Pieters added a sacrifice fly to right for a 5-0 Ems lead. Eugene upped their lead to 6-0 in the fourth with a one out triple by Wilson and a sacrifice fly from Peguero. Wilson finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored while Peguero and Pieters combined for five RBI.

Pitching Chart: Pedro Silverio fanned eight over five shutout innings, allowing two hits while walking four. The right-hander finished with a game score of 66. Duncan Robinson pitched the final four innings, allowing two runs in the ninth, one earned. He fanned two and recorded 10 ground ball outs in the save.

Emeralds Notes: Bryan Hudson is expected to take the mound on Friday night at PK Park.
