Cubs affiliates move closer to titles.

Myrtle Beach downed Lynchburg 8-3 to even the Mills Cup at one game apiece. Eugene bested the Aqua Sox in the opener of the NWL title series in Everett.

Jimenez added to Pelicans roster

Midwest League Most Valuable Player Eloy Jimenez was added to the Myrtle Beach playoff roster after 1b Yasiel Balaguert was placed on the inactive list. The Cuban native was injured running out an infield single in the Game 3 win at Salem. Named the MWL's top prospect, the 19-year-old slashed .329/.369/.532 with 40 doubles, three triples, 14 HR and 81 RBI in 112 games for South Bend. Jimenez will play in the Arizona Fall League starting in October. 

Carolina League Finals—Myrtle Beach 8, Lynchburg 3

Myrtle Beach used a five-run fifth to even the Mills Cup series with Lynchburg.

Hitting Recap: Trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, LF Charcer Burks slugged a one-out solo homer over the left-field wall. A single by CF Donnie Dewees and a RBI double by David Bote tied the game. Before the frames was over, Jeffrey BaezAndrew Ely and Erick Castillo all delivered RBI singles for a 6-3 lead. Bote added a two-run single in the eighth and finished 2-4 with three RBI and is hitting .625 in the playoffs. DH Eloy Jimenez tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first with a RBI ground out and ended his first Carolina League game 1-for-3 with a pair of walks. Dewees, Baez Castillo and Jesse Hodges all had two hits.

Pitching Chart: Jeremy Null got the start and went four innings, surrendering two runs on seven hits. Null fanned three in the 59-pitch outing. James Norwood got credit for the win after allowing a run in the fifth and striking out the side. RH Daniel Lewis fanned three over two shutout relief innings while Tommy Thorpe and Ryan McNeil both threw a scoreless frame to prevent any comeback.

Pelicans News: The best-of-five series moves to Lynchburg for the final three games. Trevor Clifton, Preston Morrison and Duane Underwood are set to start the final three games when the series resumes on Tuesday.

Northwest League Finals—Eugene 3, Everett 1

Eugene hit three solo homers and took the first game of the best-of-three finals. 

Hitting Recap: Ems used the long ball to grab a 3-0 lead. 2B Yeiler Peguero drove one over the right-center field fence for a 1-0 lead in the first. Darryl Wilson and Chris Pieters took aim over the right-field wall in the sixth with back-to-back bombs for a 3-0 advantage.

Pitching Chart: Dylan Cease needed 82 pitches to get through four shutout innings. The right-hander fanned six and allowed two hits, two walks, and hit a batter for a game score of 62. Picking up the win, RH Michael Rucker fired three scoreless relief frames and only allowed a walk. Andin Diaz put the tying runs on to start the eighth with two hits and walk. Dakota Mekkes struckout the first hitter he faced and then coaxed what looked like a 6-4-3 double play to end the threat. The call was overturned and a run scored before he recorded the final out of the eighth. Mekkes worked around a one-out single in the ninth to earn the save. 

Emeralds Notes: Cubs fourth-round pick Tyson Miller will get the start as the series returns to PK Park for Game 2 on Monday night.
