A look at Cubs news and prospects playing in Winter Leagues

Eloy Jimenez clubbed his first AFL homer while Armando Rivero had another solid outing in Venezuela.

Jon Lester (19-8) takes the mound tonight against the Dodgers’ Kenta Maeda (16-11, 3.48 ERA) in Game 1 of the NLCS at Wrigley. The 28-year-old Japanese native did not face the Cubs in his rookie season.

Arizona Fall League

RF Eloy Jimenez (.364) launched his first homer of the AFL, a  two-run shot in the fourth inning in Mesa’s 10-4 win over Surprise. The 19-year-old also singled and walk in five plate appearances.....2B Ian Happ was on base three times with a double, a single and walk. Happ scored a run and is hitting. 273....C Victor Caratini (.143) was 1-for-4 and knocked in a run.

Venezuelan Winter League

3B Gioskar Amaya (.483) stayed red-hot with a pair of singles in Aragua’s 7-3 win over Caracas. RH Armando Rivero, Aragua, worked around a pair of singles in a scoreless eighth for his second hold. The Cuban native has not allowed a run in three games (3 IP, 2K).

Dominican Winter League

Play gets underway in the DWL on Thursday, Oct. 20.

Mexican Pacific Winter League

DH Christian Villanueva (.300) went 0-for-3 with a walk in Bergen’s 6-1 win over Jalisco. Villanueva is currently the only Cubs prospect playing in Mexico.

Puerto Rican Winter League

Action begins on Oct. 27.
