Cubs News—Game 1 NLCS
Miguel Montero launched a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth as the Cubs won Game 1 of the NLCS 8-4. Dodgers tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the eighth off Aroldis Chapman only to see the Cubs load the bases in front of the pinch-hit bomb. Dexter Fowler followed up the slam with another homer off Joe Blanton.
Cubs grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on a leadoff single by Fowler and RBI double off the left-field wall from Kris Bryant. Javier Baez doubled home a run in the second and then stole home after the Dodgers tried to pick him off third.
Kyle Hendricks gets the start in Game 2 at Wrigley and Clayton Kershaw takes the mound for the Dodgers on Sunday night.......The Cubs added LH Rob Zastryzny to the 25-man roster and IF Tommy La Stella was left off the NLCS roster.
Arizona Fall League
1B Victor Caratini was 0-for-2 but walked twice and scored a run in Mesa’s 12-2 loss to Peoria....RH Ryan McNeil needed 26 pitches to get through the eighth, issuing a pair of walks before a three-run homer.... RH James Farris worked around a walk in a scoreless ninth.
Venezuelan Winter League
Zulia’s Bryant Flete (.387) was 1-for-4 with a RBI in the 9-3 win over Lara. Yapson Gomez, Lara, threw 18 pitches, eight for strikes, recording the first two outs of the fifth. Gomez allowed a hit and recorded his first strikeout in his third appearance. Gomez, 23, went 3-1 with a 2.47 ERA and 50 K in 43.2 innings in the Arizona Rookie League......3B Gioskar Amaya singled home a pair of runs in Aragua’s seven-run first and the game was suspended by rain in the fourth inning.
Mexican Pacific Winter League
DH Christian Villanueva (.357) slugged a solo homer in the eighth inning of Obregon’s 2-0 win over Jalisco. Villanueva finished 2-for-4.
