A look at Cubs news and prospects playing in Winter Leagues

Cubs drop Game 3 of the NLCS as they are blanked for the second straight game. Two days of winter league action, including a homer by a former Cub prospect.

Catching up after missing a day so don’t go looking for the Oct. 18 notebook. And don’t worry about the Cubs, they got this.

Cubs News—Game 3 NLCS

Rich Hill and three relievers blanked the Cubs for the second straight game, winning 6-0 behind homers from Yasmani Grandal and Justin Turner. Cubs were held to four hits and have only six hits over the last 18 innings. Chicago sends John Lackey to the mound on Wednesday night and the Dodgers counter with 20-year-old lefty Julio Urias.

Arizona Fall League

Oct. 18—RH Duane Underwood made his second start and went 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk. Underwood fanned two and threw 58 pitches, 34 for strikes....C Victor Caratini (.154) doubled in four at-bats.....Former Cub Gleyber Torres ripped a solo homer off Underwood in the first, his second homer of the AFL, and finished 2-for-2 with two walks to up his average to .357.

Oct. 17—RF Eloy Jimenez was the only Cubs to see action in Mesa’s 12-2 win over Scottsdale. The 19-year-old was 0-for-3 with two walks and a run scored. 

Venezuelan Winter League

Oct. 18—LH Gerardo Concepcion earned his first win of the season with 1.1 shutout innings of relief in Magallanes 5-3 win over Caribes. Concepcion allowed a hit and fanned two in the 19-pitch outing.....2B Gioskar Amaya  (.417) went 0-for-3 with a walk in Aragua’s 1-0 loss to Caracas. 

Oct. 17—Only one game on the schedule on Monday as Lara blanked Zulia 6-0. LF Bryant Flete (.342) was 1-for-4 in the loss.

Dominican Winter League

The season begins on Thursday when Aguilas hosts Gigantes.

Mexican Pacific Winter League

Oct. 18—DH Christian Villanueva (.250) was 0-for-3 with a walk in Obergen’s 7-3 loss to Navojoa. 

Oct. 17—The league had Monday off.
