Cubs News—40-man Roster

There are currently 35 players on the roster and with Rule 5 deadline of Friday, more players could be added. The top four candidates to be protected are pitchers Duane Underwood, Armando Rivero and Jack Leathersich, along with catcher Victor Caratini. Relief pitchers Corey Black and Ryan McNeil are also Rule 5 eligible. Here’s the Cubs 40-man roster as it stand today.

Outfielders (5)—Albert Almora, Jason Heyward, Kyle Schwarber, Jose Soler, Matt Szczur.

2B Bryant Flete (.244) drew two walks and scored twice in Zulia’s 7-6 victory over Margarita......3B Gioskar Amaya  (.328) knocked in a run and finished 1-for-4 in Aragua’s 4-3 loss to Magallanes. 

Dominican Winter League

Mexican Pacific Winter League

Puerto Rican Winter League

DH Kelly Dugan (.198) went 0-for-4 and scored a run in Caguas’ 6-3 win over Mayaguez. Miguel Mejia (3.86 ERA) earned his fourth hold with a scoreless eighth in the win....1B Yasiel Balaguert (.333) singled and walked in Carolina’s 4-3 win over Aguadilla.
