Patton headed to Japan, Dugan signs with D-Backs and the rest of the Winter League action.

Patton headed to Japan

Right-handed reliever Spencer Patton is going to continue his career in Japan after being released by the Cubs. Patton, 28, will pitch for the Yokohama Bay Stars in the Japan Central League. Patton appeared in 16 games for Chicago 1-1, 5.64 ERA, 21.1 IP) but didn’t have the same success he showed at AAA Iowa (35 G, 11 SV, 0.75 ERA, 59 K, 36 IP). With Patton off to Japan, the Cubs 40-man roster stands at 37.

Dugan to D-Backs

Outfielder Kelly Dugan has signed a free agent contract with Arizona. Dugan, 26, agreed to a minor league deal with the Cubs last off-season and spent the year playing in 96 games at AA Tennessee (.266/.354/.471) and smacked a team-high 13 homers. The former second-round pick spent the first seven years of his minor league career with the Phillies.

Venezuelan Winter League

SS Carlos Penalver went 3-for-4 with a run scored in his first start with Aragua in their 12-2 win over La Guaria. 2B Gioskar Amaya pinch hit and grounded out in the eighth inning for Aragua. 

Dominican Winter League

RF Juan Perez went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Aguilas’ 3-2 win over Toros. 

Puerto Rican Winter League

1B Yasiel Balaguert (.311) went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Carolina’s 3-0 win over Caragus in the first game of the DH and was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the second game, a 9-8 loss.
