A look at Cubs news and prospects playing in Winter Leagues

The Caribbean leagues are in the final month of the regular season and Chesny Young just keeps hitting.

Its the final month of the regular season for the Caribbean Leagues and the playoffs will start after the first of the year with the Caribbean Series being held Feb. 1-7. A lot of teams qualify for the playoffs and you can even lose a series and still win the whole ball of wax—yes, a best loser will advance in Mexico, and last year was the winner of the Caribbean Series.

Venezuelan Winter League

Lara (25-19) holds a half-game lead over Zulia (24-19) and Margarita (24-19) is only a game back. No Cubs prospects saw action on Wednesday.

Dominican Winter League

Gigantes (17-12) and Licey (17-13) are separated by a half game while Escogido (15-14) is two games back. 1B Chesny Young (.500) was 2-for-3 in Escogido’s 11-3 loss to Gigantes.

Mexican Pacific Winter League

Culiacan won the first half (22-13) while Navojoa and Hermosillo are tied at 6-2 for the second half title that ends Dec. 30.

Puerto Rican Winter League

Santurce (15-5) leads the league with a three-game lead over Mayaguez (12-8). DH Yasiel Balaguert (.309) was 1-for-5 in Carolina’s 2-1 12-inning loss to Aguadilla.
